Review: Simple, Straightforward, and Very Informative - I really enjoyed reading The Carnivore Diet. The book does a great job explaining the basics of eating a carnivore lifestyle and why some people choose this way of eating. The author breaks things down in a simple and easy-to-understand way, which makes it helpful for beginners who are curious about trying it. I liked that it discusses the potential benefits, how to get started, and what kinds of foods to focus on. The information is clear and practical, and it helped me better understand how a meat-based diet works. One thing I found especially interesting is that the book also shares real stories from people who struggled with serious health issues and saw improvements after switching to this way of eating. It talks about conditions such as autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Hashimotoโs thyroiditis, and psoriasis, and how some individuals experienced relief or improvement with the carnivore diet. Even if youโre not sure about going fully carnivore, the book gives you a lot to think about when it comes to nutrition, eliminating processed foods, and simplifying your diet. Overall, this is a well-written and informative book that offers a different perspective on diet and health. Iโm glad I read it and would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the carnivore diet. Review: A great read. Much deeper and detailed of what the diet book format would let you imagine. Read it! - This book is great! I buy lots of books, but I never write reviews. However, The Carnivore Diet of Shawn Baker is worth a review and a great one! Even if, by the look, the book only looks like a diet book, it is actually deeper and more scientific of what one could expect. It is a pleasure to read this book: it is easy to read, yet simple, detailed and .. very convincing. Even if, in reality, I didn't need convincing as I am already following this diet and feeling great, as Dr. Baker describes himself. But in its simplicity, the book is also very profound, as it makes you realize what you always had in front of your eyes, but never saw. Great book! I went through it so quickly, because of its simplicity. Also, what transpires from the pages, is the sharp intelligence and liveliness of the author. Maybe due to the Carnivore Diet?!

Surprising results
It is expected that people are skeptical a as bout a all meat diet, itโs not how we grew up. The book is well written, it has a good story line. But there are pros and cons. Pro: anecdotal stories and circumstantial evidence is strong and compelling Con: while refuting established norms are refuting scientific research can be fine, no opposing research has as of yet been conducted to proof the concept. Reality: coming from the Atkins diet, Iโm used to low carb diets. But as with essentially any diet, itโs based on food restriction to get weight loss results. The Carnivore diet is different. It encourages eating until satisfied. I started this diet on Dec. 26 2020, today is Jan 10 2021, so Iโm 16 days in. The first observation I made is that, yes, only having meat on the plate is enough. You do get full and get satisfied. As a result, I no longer experience that tired sensation after eating. I also donโt feel hungry a few hours later. Snacking in between meals has completely disappeared. I can finally resist, because I donโt feel a need for snacks. The next thing I observed is that 12 hours between meals is not a problem. I eat around 2pm and again around 4am (I have a non traditional schedule). I even started to skip either meal because I simply am not hungry. At over 350 pounds, there are few scales that work for me, so I have no accurate starting weight. However, my ankles are no longer swollen like they used to. I feel itching of the skin, which is a result of weight loss. My mood has improved. My mental health has improved. Walking is easier. Food no longer drives me. All reasons to keep going on this diet. I feel no restriction, yet I am eating less as I keep going. Not perfect: while I am technically 100% carnivore now, I havenโt found a convenient source of lard or tallow, so Iโm using up my EVOO. Butter is not an alternative because Iโm lactose intolerant. Also I still consume 2-3 20oz bottles of Diet Coke per day. Otherwise itโs just water. A couple times a week Iโm also using fresh garlic or garlic powder. So I guess Iโm cheating a little bit. I have calves liver in the freezer and that goes perfectly with sautรฉed onions...we will see what I do about that. Biggest negative aspect is there is diarrhea involved in the transition. It usually happens 30 minutes to 2 hours after eating. But only once, not like as if you had bad food and get all cramped up. However, this has mostly cleared up by now as well. Cost: is it more expensive? That depends on your previous food budget and eating habits. My actual budget so far is $70-80 per week. I donโt buy expensive rib eye steaks though. Lots of ground beef, a roast, some cheap steaks, hot Italian sausage and eggs. A fried egg on top a steak is perfect. My second week I ate 14 out of the 16 pounds of meat I had bought and about 18 eggs. At $80 a week thatโs $11.50 a day or $5.75 a meal. Totally doable. Social Life : going out is different now. Not only is there little on most menus to order (unless you get a steak or burger) but you may find that you are not hungry and interested in eating if you had breakfast/lunch already. Spending the evening drinking may also be a thing of the past since it interferes with the purpose of the diet. It almost throws the entire culinary arts into question. One exception would be southern bbq. Traditional holiday fare? Maybe you treat yourself to sone but chances are you will skip the side dishes and just eat your meat. Hanging out with vegan friends is easier now - after all you can order one meal and share, you get the meat and your vegan friend can eat the side dishes. Verdict: Approved and recommend. If for no other reason then the ability to resist snacking, the carnivore diet is worth a try. I would certainly say give it a 30-day trial and be honest with yourself.

Incredible Read
I've spent my entire life questioning the system and going against the grain. I was a vegetarian, a vegan, a raw vegan and a Seventh Day Adventist during my 20's. I had a lot of health problems as a teenager and was in search for answers. I tried the no meat approach and got only sicker, more depressed, weaker, fatter and just plain miserable. I remember the first time I decided I was going to eat meat again and had some roasted chicken. I couldn't stop eating it. It was so delicious. While I started eating meat again, I was still deeply entrenched in the ideas that I needed greens too so I ate a lot of chicken salads. I didn't start eating more red meat until I learned about Weston A. Price and even then I was only eating red meat several times a week. Even though I adopted all the beliefs of the Weston A. Price foundation and incorporated them into my daily life for several years, I just kept getting sicker and sicker and sicker. I then switched to a Paleo Diet felt better, hopped over to a Keto Diet (indulging on copious amounts of fat and low protein) and while I felt better for a couple of months, I was losing gobs of hair and then my health took a turn for the worst. At that point, I was forced into an all-red meat diet before there was even a term for it. I started reading Protein Power by Dr. Michael Eades and learned how important animal protein was to the body. I was scared because all I could eat was red meat. I couldn't handle anything else but red meat. My body would blow up like a balloon if I tried to eat anything else. My digestive system could only handle red meat. Magically, within 6 months I got better. I mean I just didn't get better I was a freaking superhero. I became so lean and stronger than I had ever been in my life. I was able to do 10 hallow body (true) pull-ups and human flags. I couldn't even hold myself up to the bar during our high school physical ed testing. Here at 34 years old, I was a beast. I did "carnivore" for about 18 months and as my body healed I began to add more foods back into my diet and that was the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. I was still under the belief system that red meat was bad and caused cancer and there wasn't enough information still about eating just red meat. So I started adding back chicken and protein shakes and replaced my red meat which went back down to only eating a couple of times a week. Within 2 years my health my a drastic and sharp decline to the point where I was turning blue/purple, my blood pressure was dropping so low I could barely walk/stand and I would pass out. I was having severe neurological issues, digestive issues and more. By the time I found a holistic doctor I was diagnosed with Epstein Barr, Lyme disease, hypothyroid nd more. I then started my $1000 a month supplement program which included bio-identical hormone therapy, thyroid medications, and a host of other crap I had to swallow. In the beginning, I was grateful to get some sort of normal life back, but then I started questioning everything. Not to mention spending $1000 a month on supplements just to stay awake sucked. I kept asking there MUST be a better way. Then in December of 2018 I started making serious changes. By March I came across Shawn's Instagram page and followed. When I reached out to him and he told me he takes ZERO supplements I was floored. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was like HOW is that even possible. We've been conditioned to believe that we can't survive without supplements today because we are deficient, the soil is deficient and therefore if we don't supplement we are deficient. Like every time I would get my blood tested I was always super low in magnesium no matter how much oral supplements I would swallow or how much magnesium I would slather on my body or Epsom salt baths I would take, I was low. But, after reading Shwan's book, I understand why. More importantly, since I've doubled up on my red meat, I don't NEED as much magnesium anymore. By July of 2019, I was able to come off of pretty much EVERYTHING. As I write this review, I still can't believe I quit everything and I feel the best and I have the CONFIDENCE now with this book. I have the research to back it up which I didn't have before and a community of like-minded people who also are thriving and that is huge. I've been low carb for a long time so the transition was easy for me and now you couldn't get me to touch chicken. All I eat is red meat and raw milk. I've even cut back significantly on my water consumption. Today I'm 47 years old, I feel like I'm aging backward and the things I can do with my body are incredible. Shawn is 100% correct about the Seventh Day Adventist's hand in shaping our nutritional advice. This book will really make you think about EVERYTHING. Even in Keto land most of the KETO players have to "fill the nutritional gap" and sell crap. Their keto coaching and culture is founded on all their foods and supplements. They all have something to sell whether it is supplements, collagen protein or expensive junk food bars. If you have to "fill the gap" it isn't a sustainable diet and who the hell wants to walk around pricking their fingers or peeing on sticks and hoping for ketones and just being obsessed in general. I love this diet because it is so simple; eat when you're hungry, drink when you're thirsty, eat red meat! Shawn has changed my life and I'm so grateful for this book! I'd give it 10 stars if it would let me. - Freda

Great book
Great book with a lot of useful information that goes against the garbage w have been being told for years. The proof is in the pudding, just try the diet and see how you feel. I cycle on and off the diet and it definitely works. I loose weight and feel a lot better over all. The biggest trouble is trying to get my Drโs to understand why I do it and that itโs not killing me just because my cholesterol goes up a bit.

A nutritional book that keeps simple. Eat real Food.
Great book with awesome information and useful charts to help choose a healthy food diet. It really is not a diet though because if you eat real food that nourishes your body you won't eat as much...you just eat the nutrient dense food that our ancestors ate and stop eating when you are full.

Excellent Intro to Carnivore and even its positive Environmental Impact
This book is an enjoyable read, I love how the spiral on my copy lets it sit flat as well. Dr. Baker lays out the case for a carnivore diet clearly and concisely, and as is typical of diet books in general, tells his own fascinating story of healing. What excited my the most was seeing his acknowledgment that eating a carnivore diet - or even a higher meat diet - could actually heal the land much better than the way we are doing farming now, with a lot of chemical inputs that still result in deficient soils. What is more efficient than having cattle put the nutrient-rich fertilizer where you want it in the first place???? Mob-grazing is a technique that can turn a desert into farmland, food forest or forage-rich prairies. Cattle are an integral part of this process, sometimes the only device for achieving this. (Animal rotation is amazing for maintaining the health of the animals and the soil, if you want to go all in for healing the land!) He pointed out how few cows it would take to sustain every single person on the planet vs the amount of plant food we raise - with toxic inputs - which is wasted in tremendous amounts. I think people would be amazed if they understood how all of this works to help heal the earth, vs the claims that raising cattle is bad for the environment. We are living in a time in which so many people can't heal themselves without using a ketovore or carnivore diet. Whatever is going on, we need to understand that animal foods are very important, even necessary, for a healthy life for an increasing number of people.

Easy to understand
The book is well written and easy to understand. It is simple in a good way and meant for regular people, not experts. Anyone can read it in a day or two and start using the ideas right away. Dr. Baker did a great job making it so clear and practical.

Countercurrent and provocative!
Dr. Baker's book is incredible because it actually asks questions: Is a plant-based diet/lifestyle the real solution to the increasing number of autoimmune diseases, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and so on, as well as environmental issues(climate change), to better our health and our environment? Aren't any other solutions and approaches? I think that Dr. Baker nails this questions providing his story and many other stories supported by science and results, that a carnivorous diet can be an optimal solution improving many markers of our health as well as environmental ones! Fantastic honest read worth ech single page!

This book could save your life AND the planet
This book is a brilliantly written, easily accessible approach to the carnivore diet - a diet that involves ONLY eating animal products. It's the perfect book for beginners and anyone (like myself) who goes: 'Hey?! WTAF?! What about eating the rainbow? What about fibre? Vitamin C? Won't you get cancer and scurvy? And aren't you going to destroy the planet? The Carnivore Diet dismantles all of these myths and more, showing how the proper use of ruminant animals is the only way to reverse desertification and topsoil loss through plant based agriculture, and how it is the ultimate diet for healing. As well as all the science presented in a clear way, Shawn Baker shows you how to implement the diet and make it work for you. I found the most powerful section to be the one with testimonials and case studies. Real people who had completely changed their health and lives after dropping all plant foods. I started a carnivore diet in June 2018 after decades of ill health, including IBS, SIBO, Hashimotos Thyroiditis (auto-immune thyroid disease), chronic fatigue, raynaud's, interstitial cystitis, migraines and more. I had been vegetarian for years and eaten an extremely 'clean' plant based diet, chomping down on supposed 'super foods' and supplements. I even taught plant based cookery courses... Changing to a carnivore diet was the mentally challenging thing I have done but the most transformative. My gut issues have gone away after more than 30 years, I am off thyroid meds and I have never felt better. I would encourage anyone to at least read this book and remain open minded to the power and potential of this diet!
