Review: Fluance Ai40W Powered Two-Way 5" 2.0 Bookshelf Speakers with 70W Class D Amplifier PC - I work for a wealthy business owner and am responsible for all the technology needs for him and his immediate family. I was building a home office for the grand daughter who wanted PC speakers that were white to match the furniture and decor of her home office. I looked everywhere and these were the only decent looking PC speakers in white that I could find. Usually I study product details carefully but I was in a hurry, money was no object, and I read 5" speakers that were white and I was familiar with Fluance as one of those brands that no one has heard of but has really great sound quality at a very low price. At $166, these were a little more than I wanted to pay for someone who wouldn't listen to them all that much but, again, money was no object and they were cheaper than the Bose Companion 20 speakers that I had bought for the business owner's home office a year earlier. First of all these speakers are HUGE for PC speakers! The woofers are 5" by themselves, not just the whole speaker. I almost fell over when I saw them and thought "these will never work, they're too big" but I was out of time and didn't have time to look for anything else. When I hooked them up I tried Bluetooth first and the sound was awesome! Then I tried PC mode. No luck. Uninstalled and reinstalled the PC audio drivers twice before I tethered my phone to the speakers via 3.5mm and it still didn't work. Finally forced to read the directions I discovered that there is an input button on the remote that you have to push to toggle between the two source inputs of the speakers, Bluetooth and PC (via RCA Y adapter to 3.5mm). This can be an MP3 player or anything else that uses 3.5mm, it doesn't have to be just a PC. Once I got the PC sound output working the speakers were even louder and more awesome! The grand daughter's husband came home when I was testing (I had been working alone) and he said the speakers were awesome and we both ended up rocking out at full volume on both Bluetooth and PC. Now for the actual product review. These speakers are larger than most people who are just looking for PC sound output will want. They take up a lot of space. They are the size of midsize bookshelf speakers. However, if you are looking for great sound and regularly play music or videos and movies on your PC these speakers are great! They have GREAT SOUND, get really loud (I like my music loud) and I couldn't detect any distortion at full volume. Bluetooth is loud, PC input is even louder and this is no exaggeration, we were in a 2 story house and at full volume you could hear these through out the whole house. In other words, these could be your main speakers for everything, period. At $166, these speakers are a steal! They also come in black. Also, the other thing that impressed me about the sound was that the bass was full and rich, not the thump thump thump that you hear out of exaggerated bass speakers. In my mind you would not need a sub-woofer with these speakers. We were playing Stevie Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise which is an intricate guitar and piano jazz piece and everything from bass to treble was crisp and clear and I could hear a lot more detail than from other sound systems I've listened to this on. Bottom line, these speakers are great sounding, a great value, and I HIGHLY recommend them, not just for PC, but Bluetooth, or even your main house sound system, especially if you are on a budget and can't afford a more elaborate system. Now, if Fluance could just add smart abilities to these speakers, like Google Assistant, you couldn't get any better speakers. I have 2 Google Home Max's and the Fluance have much better sound than the Google Home Max's at less than half the price!
Review: Best Speakers for $200 - At my apartment i have a pair of Vanatoo Transparent One Encores that i absolutely love, but i visit my parents house enough that i was tired of the crappy TV speakers and decided to invest in some actual speaker for both TV and Music. I have used multiple Vizio soundbars in the past and they work just fine, but I love how bookshelf speakers give you the ability to spread out the sound rather than having everything come from one central source. For this purchase the price point i set was $200 and shortly into the research process I came across the Fluance Ai40s. It was hard to not recognize the numerous published videos and blogs from professional reviewers giving these speakers the thumbs up, so i decided to give them a shot. Overall Impression after 1 Month - As soon as you start playing music it's hard to not echo what has already been said by many others. For $200 these speakers sound really friggin good. The audio is super clear, there is a lot more power than expected, and when you sit on the couch an actual soundstage is being produced. Connectivity - RCA and Bluetooth aptx. It's about as simple as it gets and should take about 10 minutes to get these connected to your TV and phone. Remote - Power, Volume, Connection source, Treble, Bass, and the ability to skip or go back to the previous song. Pretty straight forward but I appreciate the simplicity. Looks - The white and bamboo combination will catch just about anyone's eyes, and they have the sound quality to back up the look. Break in Period - I definitely agree with other reviewers that the more you listen to these speakers the better they sound. I have probably listened for roughly 20 hours and i can already notice an improvement. Treble - The mids & highs are where these speaker particularly shine. Whatever your preference is these speakers will get you to where you want to go. As a pointer when you go to adjust the treble on the remote pay attention to the light on the speaker. When the setting is flat the light will blink twice, and i would recommend using that as your starting point when making adjustments. Bass - The two complaints you will see about these speakers is the bass isn't deep enough and there isn't an input for a subwoofer. To those two points i would remind everyone that the Ai40s have a 5 inch subwoofer in each speaker, so in my opinion the structure is there to get down, but it is extremely important to make sure the speaker volume is turned up and the volume on your phone is low. I listen to most genres but primarily hip hop and I am more than happy with bass levels these produce. It's clean and the songs don't feel like they're missing anything, but you're also not going to piss off the neighbors unless you really crank them up. Then in regards to the Ai40s not having a input for a subwoofer, my suggestion would be to stop complaining and pay an extra $100 for the 2.1 Edifier S350DB system. It's important to remember the Ai40s speakers are $200 and if you're looking to shake stuff off the wall then you're going to have to spend more money. Plain and simple TV - The dialogue with anything you're watching is drastically improved and easily makes for a more enjoyable viewing experience. Settings - (Volume) Turn them all the way up then three notches down. (Treble & Bass) 3-4 notches up from the flat position. Final Thoughts - Please don't spend you're money on a soundbar and buy these instead. Vanatoo T1 Encore Comparison - With the highs and mids the T1s are a more neutral and clean, which you would except from speakers nearly 3 times the price, but the major difference between these sets of speakers is the bass. As i said earlier the Ai40s get the job done, but the the T1s are next level. They have room shaking capabilities at half power and really make you wonder what wizardry is going on. They have been great to have at my own personal living space but unless you're a serious music lover it's hard to justify the price difference.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What version of Bluetooth are these using?**
A: Thanks for your interest in Fluance!

The Ai40 Powered Bookshelf Speakers use Bluetooth version 4.1.

Best Regards,
Fluance Customer Experience Team

**Q: Has anyone been able to use another remote (such as a universal remote or apple TV remote) to control the volume of these speakers?**
A: Yes - I bought a universal Audiovox RCRN06 6remote for about $12 on Amazon - you just have to use the learning mode by pointing each remote at each other while going through the process, works flawlessly

**Q: How could I hook a subwoofer up to these?**
A: Sell them and buy the AI60's. Any way you would try to do it would cost more than it's worth. I was fortunate and bought the AI60's when they were $100 off

**Q: Would I void warranty if I painted the sides of the speakers?**
A: I'm guessing you probably would.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ These changed my LIFE
*by V***V on September 28, 2018*

This is going to sound cheesy, but these speakers changed my life. I’m a big music lover and have also used these for watching shows/movies and for gaming, and I am just blown away. Sound quality is warm, crisp, and clear. Music and gaming is very immersive with these bad boys. The remote can change input, volume, pause/play, change the source, adjust treble/bass, mute, turn the power off or on, and turn the speaker light on and off (for those of you who get bothered by that sort of thing, you’re in luck!!). Aesthetically they’re gorgeous and simple, and the branding on the front is small enough so it doesn’t bother me. When you connect or disconnect to the speakers via Bluetooth, the speakers make a drum sound so you know you’re connected (or disconnected). I’m so happy I shopped around for speakers and found these—they’re AMAZING—and I will be recommending them to everyone that asks me about speakers or audio accessories.
