Great hand saw!
The Silky Big Boy 2000 is an excellent hand saw that can be used for any number of purposes, from pruning work in orchards to helping cut up trees for firewood. It's just handy as can be and the quality is excellent. Made in Japan, where companies haven't completely given up on their own people and moved all jobs to China, this is a high-quality and well-engineered product. The curved 14 1/2" blade has well designed and aggressive teeth that remove large amounts of wood with each backward - you read that right - stroke. The full-length handle is coated with a rubber-like material and gives an excellent grip. The blade, like all Japanese saws, is made to cut on the backstroke or as you pull it toward you (if your hands slip, they won't come in contact with the cutting edge, will they?) and you should NOT try to put downward pressure on the blade as you push forward. Just push forward to reset for the next power stroke when you pull back again. You'll get the hang of it. How does that work? Very well, actually. As I said, the teeth are well designed to remove the maximum of material pulling the blade backward. The X" blade is long enough to take advantage of this while still being short enough to fold into a handy carrying length. This blade will do excellent work in the orchard in early spring or as a companion to a chainsaw for work on felled trees, trimming the branches off to prepare for being cut into length for the chainsaw. This is an excellent saw and can't say enough good things about it while it only has one flaw - it does not lock closed. If you pick it up wrong, it'll open up. If it's in a backpack it may open enough to catch and cut whatever else is in there. Like all sharp tools, you have to be on your guard.

The ultimate folding saw for serious work
I'm a four tool kind of guy. For any extended period in the woods, I like to have my axe, saw, knife and utility blade. Depending on the situation, I'll use different sizes of each. After a few years and far too many purchases, I've settled on my final tools (for now). In the case of ultralight, short-stay and extended outings, the Silky Saws cover all my saw needs. The Pocketboy 170 with medium teeth, is my go-to, ultralight, toss in the bag folding saw. My Gomboy 240 with large teeth is the best basic bushcraft saw, bar none. It is lightning fast, durable, easy to replace the blades as needed, and just gets the job done. I have the Corona and the Bahco laplander, and the Gomboy outperforms both by a mile. (The Corona is just a little faster than the Bahco). So I had to give the BigBoy 2000 a try. What can I say? It's like having a chainsaw on hand. It cuts through 4 inch timber like butter, and can handle very large logs you wouldn't even attempt with any other folding saw. It's big. Really big. 14 inches may not sound huge, but compared to the others, it's shocking. But if you carry a Small Forest Axe into the woods, then it doesn't seem like such a big deal. It fits inside almost all my packs. I haven't sprung for the sheath, and it doesn't come with one, but so far it hasn't been a big deal. It's not like you're going to miss this guy, if you put it on the ground. Bright yellow and over two feet long open, it's kind of obvious. The only thing that ever gives me any trouble is the blade feels kind of loose sometimes, and tends to bend too easily if I hit a knot or I'm not being too careful. I mostly credit that to user error. The GomBoy 240 is still my go-to bushcraft saw for short outings. But if I'm going to be in the woods for several days, or plan on doing some serious woodcraft, the BigBoy is as good as it gets.

A Shredding Beast
When it comes to outdoor tools, quality can be everything. The Silky Professional BIGBOY 2000 Folding Saw was on the pricier side, but I found out that it's worth every penny. Here's why: Pros: Incredible Performance: This saw is a beast when it comes to cutting. It literally shreds through wood, making tasks quicker and more efficient. Build Quality: Made by a renowned brand, the quality of this saw is palpable. It feels sturdy, well-balanced, and is designed for heavy use. 360mm XL Blade: The blade size is perfect for more demanding tasks, and the extra-large size makes it versatile for various applications. Ease of Use: Despite its power, it's surprisingly easy to use. It cuts smoothly and doesn't require a lot of effort, which is perfect for longer projects. Portable and Foldable: Its folding design makes it convenient for storage and transport. Take it camping or use it in the garden; it's ready to go wherever you need it. Cons: Price Might Deter Some: Its higher price tag might make some hesitate, but trust me, it's a worthwhile investment. Conclusion: I almost passed on the Silky Professional BIGBOY 2000 Folding Saw due to its price, but I'm so glad I took the plunge. This saw is a powerhouse, efficient, and built to last. It's become an indispensable tool for me, and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're looking for a folding saw that will not only meet but exceed your expectations, this is the one. Don't let the price deter you; it's worth every cent!

Excellent.
This thing is insanely effective. I’ve used multiple different saws in the market, but this one is by far the best. I don’t think it could be any bigger and still fit into my snowmobile backpack. Definitely goes with me on all my big adventures.

A must-have tool for trail clearing through the woods.
I’m fortunate in that I’m in the process of clearing some single track MTB trails in the woods on our farm. I have a pretty good assortment of tools for the purpose, which I carry to the trailhead in a four wheeler. It’s a long term project, mostly starting with existing game trails and even logging roads and turning them into trails for walking and riding our mountain bikes. I’ve been working on it intermittently for a couple of years. However, for those times when I’m clearing or maintaining trail farther from the trail head, I wanted something lightweight enough to easily carry and that would still be effective. The Big Boy, combined with a set of ARS pruning shears (also reviewed) which I carry in my pocket, gives me the means to perform most clearing duties easily. Instead of completely clearing a trail as I go, I first find a natural line and make at least several passes along it to make sure the line is where I want it, and prune and saw a bit more with each pass. The result is a gradually growing network of singletrack through the woods that is a pleasure to use. Using these lightweight tools also means I can combine taking a walk with doing trail work, instead of slogging along with heavier tools. Of course there are times when one needs those heavier tools, but not as often as I once thought. The Big Boy saw is perfectly suited for cutting branches, saplings, and smaller downed trees that I would normally use a bow saw or even a chain saw to cut. The curve seems just right, the handle fits my hand well, and the blade is wicked sharp. When folded it is easy to carry in the hand or in a day pack. It’s easier to carry than a bow saw, and certainly easier than a chain saw. I really like that the saw cuts on the pull stroke. I also have a few pull saws for carpentry work, and once I learned how to use them properly, have come to prefer them over the normal cross cut and rip saws that I also own. The handle is large enough to be used with two hands, but I find that such occasions are rare; mostly I use one hand, and let the saw do the work. When I first saw the price I was skeptical that this saw would be worth it; but it is. I find that Japanese steel products generally are more expensive but superior to many others. If you have a need for a portable pruning saw that you will use more than once in awhile, I expect you’ll happy with this one. Highly recommended.

Great, Big, Saw
It's not a clever name, this saw really is a bigboy. I took it out last weekend and was anxious to see it in action after all the feedback I've seen. Note that my point of use was/is backpacking and not as a real arborist. I'm giving this a review from that perspective. When the saw first arrived I was indeed taken aback by the size. 14 inches doesn't seem that long, until you are holding it in your hand. It really seemed too big for a backpacking type use. I'm not an expert arborist but I'm thinking the smaller saw might have been a better fit. Initial impressions are that the lock is tight, but there is a lot of play when the saw is not locked. When the saw is folded, there is nothing keeping it down, and even when folded, there are gaps between the handle and the blade. I kept mine in a long sock so that it would both stay folded, and that small material in my pack wouldn't get caught on the teeth and get shredded. I think it should have come with a sheath because of this. As far as actual use is concerned, the saw performed like magic. I cut an approximately 5" log in about 30 seconds with relatively no effort. I could have produced enough wood for a fire in no time. I tried to cut an 8" log or so and got about 1/3 of the way in about a minute (I stopped because my arm was tired from sawing and splitting). As a comparison I also brought one of those cheap $10 sierra saws from REI. It took about twice the time on the 5" log, I didn't even attempt the bigger log because of the blade size. On a standing tree, the size advantage really came into play. I was able to saw large limbs without the need to stand on anything or saw the tree down first. It was actually easier sawing from this position and I'm guessing that's what this saw was made for. Knowing what I know now, I would probably have gotten one of the smaller models, maybe the Super Accel. The saw is packable for a multi-day trip, but a little over the top. Unless you are making huge fires, you won't need to saw more than a 4-5" log and the extra few seconds of sawing I don't think justifies having this monster in your pack. To summarize: Pros: Saws great Makes cutting up high a breeze Cons: Really big No Sheath + no folding lock & gaps between blade and handle when folded = shredded equipment

AWESOME! Safe alternative to a chainsaw.... Seriously!
I used this saw to clean up a dead 6-7" diameter birch tree that was leaning towards our house. After about 30 minutes of careful planning, de-limbing and setting up directional lines, I decided to drop the tree. I sawed out a small wedge on the side I wanted it to go, then started the back-cut. As I was sawing through the tree, I noted that I wasn't even thinking about the tool I was using. It was effortless. When I got close to the end of the back-cut, I could hear the tree cracking. This is a big point. An average homeowner, with a chainsaw would not normally be able to sense the subtle straining of the tree. So, the speed with which this was happening, and the precision of the cuts were very controllable. When I felt that I had advanced the cut enough, I slowly backed away and gave the directional line a tug. The tree fell exactly where I wanted it to. I don't feel a chainsaw would have done a better job, and certainly would have been way more hazardous. Having said this- if you don't know what you are doing, hire a professional. I have some experience with felling trees, and was comfortable with my plan. Using the proper technique of cutting on the draw stroke was easy and the blade reacted well. The handle was large enough to accommodate two hands. The lock performed well. I guess the only thing that I noticed that I would change is the few exposed teeth when the blade is folded. You would have to try to cut yourself, but I suppose it could be done. While I certainly won't give up my chainsaw, this is a great tool for trickier jobs, and will find it's way into my off-road kit. No hesitations, no regrets on this purchase.

Exceptional Saw, but Needs a Case Solution
I recently purchased the Silky Professional Series BIGBOY 2000 Folding Landscaping Hand Saw with Extra Large Teeth, and I am incredibly impressed with its cutting capabilities. The sharpness of the teeth and the efficiency with which it tackles branches and limbs are truly remarkable. This saw has significantly reduced the time and effort I spend on landscaping tasks, making it an invaluable tool for any outdoor enthusiast or professional landscaper. The extra-large teeth of the BIGBOY 2000 are a game-changer. They effortlessly cut through thick branches with precision, providing a clean and smooth finish. The folding feature is convenient for storage and transport, making it easy to carry around in my backpack or toolbox. The ergonomic handle ensures a comfortable grip, allowing for extended use without hand fatigue. However, the lack of a protective case is a notable drawback. Given the sharpness of the blade, having a case is not only essential for safety but also for prolonging the life of the saw. It's disappointing that finding a compatible case is challenging. The absence of a case makes it cumbersome to transport and store securely, and it's a missed opportunity for the manufacturer to provide a complete solution for their customers. Despite the absence of a case, the BIGBOY 2000's exceptional performance cannot be overlooked. It delivers on its promise of efficiency and durability, making it a worthwhile investment for anyone in need of a reliable landscaping hand saw. If the manufacturer could address the case issue, this product would easily earn a full 5-star rating. In summary, the Silky Professional Series BIGBOY 2000 Folding Landscaping Hand Saw is a top-notch tool for outdoor cutting tasks. Its sharpness, efficiency, and ergonomic design make it a standout choice. However, potential buyers should be aware of the lack of a protective case and consider their own solutions for safe storage and transport. If you don't mind the case issue, this saw is definitely worth the purchase for its excellent cutting performance.
