Did they fix that problem ?** A: Nope... I bought one this week 10-21. I clipped it on my pocket, walked 200', reached into my pocket, and jammed the thing into my finger, nearly to the bone. WORST DESIGN EVER. Just passing a finger tip over the point, WHILE THE BLADE IS FULLY CLOSED, will snag the tip of the blade. Totally irresponsible to market this product. **Q: Can this knife be easily opened with a thumb stud?** A: For me, the thumb stud is too close to the blade's pivot to provide enough leverage to deploy the blade. Also, as others have noted, when new, this knife requires a small amount of lubrication on the pivot. Once done, the blade will deploy very easily with the flipper, and with as much speed and authoritative snap as an automatic. **Q: Is the liner lock still getting stuck? Is the blade still not centered? Are people still being cut cuz it opens in the pocket?** A: Any folding pocket knife with an easy opening mechanism - be it disk, hole, thumb studs, or flipper - can jostle around in a pocket and open by mistake. I had a Benchmade Ascent with an opening hole that was partially opened by my handkerchief of all things, and cut myself - a bunched up portion of the handkerchief got wedged in the opening hole and when I put my hand in my pocket that moved the handkerchief which in turn moved the tip of the blade out of the handle just a little. Ever since, I carry whatever knife is in rotation in a short section of bicycle innertube, taped closed at the bottom (Gorilla Duct Tape is superb). When I pull the pocket knife out to open a package, the bicycle inner tube section just automatically stays in my pocket. The Luzon is pretty safe. It has a VERY stiff detent, at least on the 3 or 4 I own (one user and one collector in the box of each length). In fact the detent is so stiff i can't open with thumbstud, only with flipper, and even that wears out the pad of my finger. The reason for the stiffness, which is intentional, is so the blade will really fly out and lock solid when it finally snaps off the detent. That having been said, knives with easy opening mechanisms are ALWAYS paired with pocket clips, and the blade ALWAYS sits towards a pocket seam, never away from it. This substantially limits the amount of blade that can accidentally open. It is also the real reason pocket clips are usually overly tight. It's not so the knife won't fall out of our pocket if we lean over (or get hung upside down???). It's so the pocket knife, once clipped against a seam, won't start sliding towards the middle and thereby allow the blade to open. Buck actually had it right with the original Folding Hunter 110 which came with a sheath (although the sheath was to dodge to avoid restrictive concealed pocket knife laws). I recognize you have already figured all this out on your own. But I wrote this for the sake of any noobies who happen by. Quality control - you're right, the quality control is dismal compared to a $22 Pro Lite. However, there's nothing out there which can do light kitchen duties like the Luzon - 4" is paring size, the blade isn't too thick. And the 6" version can quarter a Costco rotisserie chicken for an impromptu tailgater. **Q: How much does the large one weigh?** A: The medium weights 3.5 oz or 98 grams. When folded, you will see a blade extension tab that sticks out a bit through the backside of the handle. You can open it with one hand, if you have a strong thumb, by putting your thumb on top of that little tab, and flicking it downward firmly using a motion similar to flicking a lighter. The blade is not spring loaded at all, it relies on the strength of your thumb to open. If your thumb isn't quite up to the task, I found that giving it a little well timed 'flick' usually does the trick. Locks with a liner lock, and has a secondary 'safety' lock you can engage after it is open, to give extra security from closing. Compared to other knives I have seen in this price range, the lock seems a bit stouter than average, the blade has a better than average factory edge, and it seems precisely made. Blade steel seems good for the price point. The blade is quite 'pointy' so it would be good for precision work, more than camp knife type chores. I have both sizes. The small one is a very practical size, and fits in a pocket well. The large one is BIG, about as large as practical for general use. The large one is almost more conversation piece than tool, as when a knife gets that large, I would prefer a fixed blade and stouter blade for camp knife use. It still opens with one hand, and is wicked sharp, though.
