Review: Tool steel and sharp 90° corners- that's what you need - The strikers that come with most ferro rods are too soft to make much of a spark. I've really good luck with half of a pair of scissors, if they are good quality. Had good luck with blades from a mini-lathe. These Bayite strikers are good tool steel and appear to work as well as the HSS mini-lathe blades. Don't know about longevity, but these appear to be genuine HSS tool steel. I bought some from a site that starts with E and they looked the same but were some kind of softer steel. Yes, they would produce a spark, but not much and only had one sharp edge. I threw them away. These Bayite strikers are the real deal, and they have 6 striking edges (if you count the tip). Although people say there is a lot of difference in ferro rods, I've tried many different ones and in my experience, they are all pretty much the same. The magic is in the striker. And these are very good strikers. With six functional edges, even if you use it enough to wear down one edge, it's still operable. Beware of lookalikes, they might or might not use the same steel - and the hard tool steel plus that sharp corner is what makes them work. There are other strikers that are as good, but I doubt you will find any that are better. Having been lost once while snowshoeing, and spending the night under a tree in subfreezing temperatures at 10,000 ft altitude, I will say that in a precarious situation, you want a fire starter that works. And these work. If you have any ferro rods that came with stamped strikers, throw away the strikers and replace them with one of these. Or two, for redundancy. Few people are ever in a lost hiker situation, but if you ever are, you want stuff that works. Trust me on this....
Review: A must for any Ferro rod! Keep your knife Sharp - A must for any Ferro rod! I got the three pack I added one to my bayite 6 in Ferro rod love it! Also added one to another smaller Ferro Rod I have and one on the keychain so I always have it on my belt loop. Basically a must for anyone that don't want to mess up their knife! Do the toilet tissue test. It will light every time! Best carbon steel on the market Sparks or just wow is all I can say after they hit the Tinder they're still sparking. This is the only brand I will trust in the woods camping or for camping for long times just make sure you got a backup with your Tinder. Fire putty Works quite well it's hard to keep your Tinder dry but mylar bags we'll take care of that for you. Those are also a must for Sealing in everything! If properly sealed you will not have any problems with keeping your Tinder nice and dry so look into that coming from a survivalist also they sell pre-cut wood which is very small and for $35 you can't beat it to get any fire going and blowing! Face it! It's nature you won't always be able to get the right size Tinder wood to get a significant fire with enough heat to dry out wet wood. So cover all your bases think about water filtration. And a lot of cordage! But as far as any Ferro rod this is my go-to big chunks fly off which is very good they stay lit and they even burn while there on the ground. I do a lot of off-grid living and these are just a few little tricks your days should consist of at least four hours of wood hunting! Oso use that time for hunting as well and if law permits trapping. If you're a vegetarian find out what you have in your area that you can eat and go out and Forge. If you're not a vegetarian learn to be one anyway they'll be times where you will not be able to get life game! Find out as well what you can eat what you can't eat. If you're planning on staying at a certain spot for a while it's worth building a deck! Ground gets very cold screws can always hold your support ropes. Once you get your fire going never let it get low. I could fill up my allotted time with explain things but oh so make sure you got a water filter!! If not anything else bleach! You can get a camping app I cannot say for copyright reasons but look it up the ratio bleach to drinkable water and that will help you learn. If you like me and you're on disability are we stock up on your food build you a net by the water in the water you always want to camp close to water.! Keep all cold items that are sealed! And I see sealed! In a sealed bag make you a net and put your cold items like milk things that have to be code of that nature into your water especially if you're in the Pacific Northwest great Refrigeration! And just have common sense that's the main key read as much as you can and you will find that living off grid is a freedom like you will never know that is only if you prepare right for the conditions the climate where you are in the United States or abroad. Anyway to wrap this up you're getting the best rod on the market

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do the strikers wear out before the rods**
A: These strikes last beyond a single rod’s lifetime … easily … i have already gone through one 1/2” x 6” ferrocerium rod already … i purchased two 3-packs of these strikers. These are simply the best you can buy. I am set for life since i also purchased 20 ferrocerium rods too … i like the softer 1/2” x 6” rods. These strikers are High Speed tooled steel alloy … hardened to 64 HRC … which is very very hard. The edges should last for many many years. These will rust … so dry them off when they get wet …

**Q: how much does one striker weigh?**
A: I never weighed one but it can't be more than a few grams

**Q: How long is the actual striker in length? Dont care about package length only item length interests me**
A: Please refer to the detailed size of this striker in this picture. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71Ux4souXvL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

**Q: Does the steel run the whole length of the handle and integrate into the lanyard hole? Like a full tang? Or does it only go part-way into the plastic?**
A: Judging by the one's I just received and looking at right now, judging by the bulge in the plastic molded handle, I'd say the scrapper is embedded, maybe 3/8" into the handle. Appears as secure as any molded over item similar to this.

This will cast a good spark because it is not painted. I have used this on a bayite ferro rod and it does work.
