Firstly, yes, it's darker than the box shows. But that was why I bought it. I wanted a warm, darker, rich brunette tone to overlay the current too-red hue I've got. I normally use John Frieda foam in a variety of the darker brown, redder shades and they've just really been talking flat and not covering evenly lately. They also haven't been giving me the gray coverage it used to. So, I decided to give this a try and it's now my go-to.
