Assisted? Like switchblade? It has the two notches on the blade to flick it open, but it does not have a switch blade device to open it. Purely manual

Does knife come in box/case?

The knife comes in a small box, this has the smith and Wesson logo and the model number of the knife on it. I'd keep this for future reference when you're asked where you got that knive and what kind is it.Hope this answers your question.

How will it perform in a saltwater fishing environment

Since the blade is high carbon stainless steel, it should do fine. However, for easier one-handed opening, I'd prefer one of the many knives here that has a "kick" on it so the blade can be flicked out by pressing on it with a thumb or finger. (A "kick" is that little tab-shaped thing on the back side of the head of the blade you can see when the knife is closed. I don't know how to describe it any better.)
