The color matches perfectly. It is a special guitar lacquer, it shrinks a little as it dries. I made several coats to hide to hide the chips. A deep hole should be filled with wood filler first. I is opaque and primarily used to repair chips in black finishes on guitars. As for darkening I'm not sure its the affect you want. It will produce a gloss black finish where you apply it.
