Old Wisconsin Summer Sausage, Beef, 16-Ounce

I've tasted a lot of different summer sausages, mine came looking good, not like a lot of the pictures, and there's always the chance of micro tears in the package causing them to go bad. i honestly don't see the point of these negative reviews. you can easily get a refund and try for another, it's not like they can check the quality of these while they're in a Amazon warehouse. the product it's self is amazing, their ratings shouldn't go down over something that is common and uncontrollable. so i suggest anyone considering their first order to give it a shot, if you're unlucky and you get a bad one you will get a refund. this is the best tasting one i have ever ate, and just looking inside you can tell they use better ingredients, the meat is lean and not full of fat/grease/oil, mine was fresh/soft and you could see the spices in it. i wasn't going to order because i usually get the same size for $4-$5, $8 seemed a bit much. but after seeing the quality i have a second one coming in a few days.

This all beef summer sausage actually surprised me! I used to dearly love the original H------ F---- Beef Stick. Back a number of years ago, H------ F---- changed their recipe from the Beef Stick to the H------ F---- Beef Summer Sausage. Sadly, they totally ruined it with too much fat and fillers and a big change with the spices and flavor! So, I have been looking for a replacement beef sausage ever since. This Beef Old Wisconsin Summer Sausage is pretty close to the flavor of the good ole Hickory Farms Original Beef Stick! This sausage is also lot less fatty and greasy than the newer Hickory Farms Summer Sausage. The texture of this sausage is a bit on the mushy side, but after being in the fridge for a few hours, that helps firm it up some. The diameter of this sausage is about 2 inches and the sausage is about 11 inches long. It is decent a size for the price and it is All Beef! I will finish eating this one, (much to the dismay of my dogs), and I will be buying more.

I used to like Hickory Farms...A LOT. Then, I guess the folks at Hickory Farms decided that cheaper ingredients and quality control cuts were more important, at least that's what it tastes like to me, and after many years of Hickory Farms sausage bliss, it twern't so blissful. So, after years of tastyness I have not purchased, nor would I even consider Hickory Farms as and option any more. Then one day, I was looking for summer sausage and found Old Wisconsin and am very pleased with the product. It's not the best, but beats the "new" Hickory Farms by a mile. The absolute best Summer Sausage I've ever tried was some that a friend brought me back from a shop on the Navy Pier in Chicago. That stuff didn't last an hour, and I'm kinda glad I don't remember what it was because could turn out to be absolutely addictive. I continue to order a stick of Old Wisconsin every once in a while, in fact I just got a new stick yesterday and think I'll just have me some. Wish I could remember the name of that place in Chicago.....anyone???

Great taste as always

I was hesitant to purchase even with the great reviews, but have really wanted a good summer sausage like when I was a kid. I kept it in fridge a few days so it could be cold enough, which is important for the fat content. But mom and I, who are used to the old fashioned summer sausage from the 50s and 60s, have steered away from it in the past 30 years because it never tastes right. This is PERFECT!!! Flavors are not over powering, just the right combination, salt content, fat, beef, was a great breakfast with cheese and crackers! Next time will make sure I will have better selection of just adds, pickles, and crackers, and use my mandolin to slice everything. Very much enjoyed!! My daughter has never had it, she loves it!!! Will be a staple and will order for to take with her to her family gatherings, it will be a hit!!!
