Yes it will. Volvo changed from the spin-on can to this element style during the 1999 model year. Your 2000 XC70 uses this element.Many people use a cup style (85-86mm, sheet metal, cost $6 to $9) socket to grab the bottom of the canister and turn it with a 3/8" ratchet drive.Remember, the filter's canister (housing) is a plastic. It's strong enough but you can break it if you're reckless.I use my old fashioned strap wrench around the bottom of the canister where the flutes are. The oil pan encloses the canister so you can only nudge it partial turns but that's enough. After a few nudges you can turn it off by hand.Always install the new "O" ring and give it a slight coat of oil. Use a wooden toothpick or just your fingernail to get the old "O" ring off.YOU DO NOT WANT TO SCRATCH THE SEAT OF THE "O" RING. When you tighten the canister into place you'll feel the "O" ring compress into the bore then when you feel the canister hit its stop, you're there.No need to over-tighten. Make sure to have a replacement 18mm crush washer ready for the drain plug as they get bent up in use.Also, your engine is turbo-charged. They run hot. Mobil1 0W-40 European Formula is an excellent choice. Castrol 0W-30 European Formula is equally good.Go to volvoforums.org.uk for help learning about your car. My name is Kira on that board. It can vary. Small volume products can be made in batches whenever necessary. The contract to produce them can be made with any company, anywhere which is free at the time. These filters are made in Poland, China, Spain, Mexico and France. It's the quality control which Mann demands that you want more than a favored COO.

I have a volvo 2004 s 40 does it need a new crush filter? why does it not come with this filter?

The filters rarely come with the washers unless bought from the dealer. In a pinch you could reuse the old washer just flip it over to crush the other side and make sure you give it a bit extra crush.

OEM quality for a good price

Great filter elements; been using them for decades. They appear to be exactly the same as OEM, but in more recent years they are about half the price of what the dealership charges. There was much less difference in price between online and dealer prices in the past but the dealer price has just about doubled.

A little longer than the filter the mechanic used last time, and that is a good thing.

At first I was concerned that this filter is about 3/16" longer than whatever one was there before, but it went in perfectly, and I realized I was getting extra filtering ability over the old one. Pleased. Volvo S60 2001.

Almost a Five Star

I have used this brand exclusively on my BMW (110K) and Volvo (90K), with synthetic oil changes at 6000 miles religiously, and neither burns a single drop of oil. I have never seen any "failure" of the filter, which remains firm until the end. Unfortunately the price advantage has been eroding over the years- boo. So lost a star for that-
