Can I use with a regular room humidifier instead of the Vick’s one?

It needs to be used with a vaporizer for maximum effect. The heated mist picks up and carries the vapor. You can use it with off-brand humidifiers and vaporizers, but the Vicks Vaporizer has a tiny well under the mist output vent for you to pour the vaporizer in to.

Can this be put right into the water on the warm mist Vicks steamer or does it have to go in the little compartment on top of unit?

It actually states “When adding to your warm mist humidifier place VapoSteam into the medicine cup, not the tank.” I finally figured out that this is why mine was noisy and spitting water during operation. After switching to only putting water and a pinch of salt in the tank, it works perfectly.

Does this leave a residue in the steamer cup?
