i need a lock for outdoor shed and its getting hard to read because of tarnishing. does this tarnish and/or fade over time?

The Master lock is a piece of junk (my opinion) the first thing that fails is the cover on the bottom. The best lock for the job is the Sesame combination lock. They are easy to read and last for years. Good luck.

Is this lock as easy to pick as the 175 series? I want to buy it but if it's anything like the old series it is not very safe.

I never picked a lock but I do not recommend this lock due to the difficulty changing combinations. Big thumbs down.

The question "Is the lock weatherproof?". Yes and no. In my opinion nothing is weather proof, but I have a few of padlocks and this one is outlasting the others. No signs of weathering, or malfunction with freezing weather, raining weather and 100^ direct sunlight. Only thing I do to the locks is a little oil every couple years. So is it weatherproof I can't answer but it is a strong solid lock.

Is this lock coated or laminated and does it prevent scratching of painted surfaces?

The lock case is hard metal that is powder coated and a rubber bumper is around the case that helps prevent the lock from damaging the surface of the door.
