Review: This is my first LG phone coming from the M8, I did not expect much but after trying out I'm glad with my choice. Even though most of the competition focuses on gimmicks like beefing up cameras instead of focusing on essentials, this phone does it right in all areas. UI looks good, clean and most importantly customizable thanks to LG Smart World. Screen is beautiful, battery life is excellent around 2 days but you have to make several tweaks to achieve it. You don't even need that many third party apps. LG Keyboard is just as good as Swiftkey, It comes with a file manager and there's a "smart cleaning" feature that does most of what apps like clean master do. Be careful with smart cleaning idle apps though I thought it would just stop the apps but it actually uninstalls them so consider changing the setting to at least 1 month. I'm a believer that Quad HD on a phone ( everything above full HD) is a gimmick and in my opinion useless even though the screen is nice and would be lying that is not impressive, I would have preferred if they released 2 models Full HD and QHD. If I can get around 2 days of battery life with it, I can only imagine if the screen was Full HD. If you look at the battery usage tab in the settings and see what drains more, it's the screen it goes from like 25-39% (0 Brightness at home and auto when I'm out) Camera is just fine for me in auto mode, I wouldn't have a clue on how to operate manual mode. Smart features in my opinion are useless since they use location and location decreases battery life considerably so I disable location completely. If you plan on using it, I would suggest using battery saving mode it uses data and WiFi instead of GPS. The only smart feature I have enabled is to open the music app when I plugin earphones/headphones. Smart bulletin could use some improvements, it could even become LG's own Blinkfeed. +Battery life + Customization (themes/fonts/app logos etc) + Knock Code a good alternative to fingerprint scanner and surprisingly convenient + Leather back looks good + comes with a screen protector and extra case + SD card slot + Removable battery The last two are reasons enough to at the very least consider this phone.
Review: I will update this as and when I get a new handset, however... In the first hour of ownership this phone switched itself off without warning repeatedly, while downloading apps from Play Store. After eventually managing to update to Marshmallow the reason for the resets became clearer, with repeated warnings that the device was overheating. At no point did the phone even feel warm. The situation got worse, to the point that my fully charged phone would turn off, then on attempted restart claim it had 0% charge. If I left the handset off the charger it would allow me to boot after a few minutes, but would only last a couple of minutes before the temperature warning appeared, followed very quickly by shutting down. Still no temperature emanating from the phone. This has now been sent back for refund and I will get a replacement once I have the money. The handset is lovely when it works, just a shame it is only for about 10 minutes a day! Fingers crossed the replacement is ok as this does not seem to be a common fault. I will edit my review once the new handset arrives. EDIT: Well after a bit of a balls up by desertcart I finally received my new handset, this time in black leather. Thankfully it was also the UK model unlike the brown one which I believe was Taiwanese. All I can say is that this phone is absolutely perfect for me. It is fast, has an excellent camera (apart from slight lag on first opening the app) and most importantly had expandable memory for all my music. I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone so I can use better apps for battery management, as the battery is no better than any other handset and only really lasts a day with steady use. You can easily disable or ignore most of the pre installed software and install your own launcher etc just like any Android handset. The screen is stunning, my wife has the Galaxy S7 Edge and the G4's screen and camera easily match that. I decided against the G5 as I wanted to keep the rear buttons and there wasn't enough better on the G5 to convince me to go for it. Anyway there you go, I think I have found my perfect phone, well done LG!

i purchased this phone and was over the moon.. THEN THE PROBLEMS STARTED!! i was unfortunate enough to drop the phone. and to my absolute horror, the screen cracked.. i ring up LG to see if they offered a repair service for the phone (i was willing to pay of course as a damaged screen is outside of the warranty) but i was informed that LG DO NOT OFFER THIS TYPE OF SERVICE! Apple, Samsung and all the other top phone companies offer this service as a cracked screen is a problem that most people will experience with these new phones (and yes i had a case, one of those wallet ones which was absolutely pathetic and didn't do a single thing) which made matters worse, LG had the cheek to tell me that the phones warranty would be invalid as the screen is cracked but they HOPED I would resolve the issue quickly.. HOW WAS I SUPPOSE TO DO THAT WHEN LG DO NOT OFFER A PHONE REPAIR SERVICE!!! i was facing the unfortunate issue of forking up £175 to replace a cracked screen (not far off half the price of the mobile bloody phone!) you would think that my problems would end there... WRONG!! The phone then started to randomly switch itself off and freeze.. I spent more time Taking the battery out to try and get it to function than i did actually using the phone! ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!! now this was clearly a manufacturing problem but because my skin was cracked, the WARRANTY was invalid.. HOW IS YOUR LUCK!! Luckily for me, i had insurance through my bank! They informed me that the phone was BEYOND ECONOMICAL REPAIR!! now, i now for a fact that the screen was not the reason it was beyond repair but the DODGY BUILD OF THE PHONE! i should have done my research on the issues of the phone before purchasing. i have reverted back to my LG G2 whilst i await the arrival of a replacement handset. I can honestly say that this will be the LAST time i go with LG! Maybe i was unlucky and received a dodgy handset.. but the fact that a massive company like LG do not offer a repair service is beyond me.. You crack your iPhone.. you simply walk into apple and get the screen fixed.. no drama.. no issue.. LG may be ahead when it comes to technology etc but they are LIGHTYEARS behind on customer service! Amazon wasn't very helpful when i raised the very valid point of the phone switching off has nothing to do with a cracked screen.. All they did was repeat the fact that because the screen was cracked, it voided the warranty! Cheers.. for nothing! buy at your own risk and make sure you have INSURANCE with your bank otherwise you will be paying over the odds to get a simple screen repaired!
