Hugely Recommended for a Budget Guitar
Man. I have had many cheap Squiers, and while the Classic Vibe series is getting quite good (and pricey) - these Yamahas are nothing to sneeze at. I've always respected the older ones on the secondhand market, but these ones are quite good brand new! I took mine out of the box, and it played perfectly fine. They seem to use decent strings from the factory, and I didn't feel the need to replace them. Action is reasonable and the frets are done quite well. Rolled fretboard edges from the factory! Very impressive. I suppose the only "flaw" I could find is that the electronics are really not that good, which is to be expected at this price point. They're functional, but they're ceramics which lack the clarity of higher-end Alnico pickups. I swapped in some cheap Musiclily Alnico V pickups and put a Gibson humbucker in the bridge position (that I had lying around) and the thing is absolutely perfect now - I would take this thing on a gig. I love mine, I got it with the intention of swapping to a different guitar in the long term, but I think I'm going to keep it. I would seriously recommend one of these over a Squier.

Great entry level guitar
Comfortable, reliable, good sound, good feel, solid construction. Everything works. It costs a little more than some of the other entry level guitars, but it's worth it to not have to worry about the quality of the build or sound.
