But since creativity is still at his core, Malek shares 75 more recipes riffing off those classics, like Smoked-Cherry Vanilla, Chili Crisp Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, and Coffee Toffee Banoffee. Review: Great book - Received book in perfect condition. Loved trying out the recipes - came out great! Review: New inspiration for an old cook - Love this book! I’ve been making ice creams for more than a decade and recently got this to learn updated approaches and inspiration for new flavors. It did not disappoint. The text is well spaced, pictures and anecdotes add value, and most importantly of all, the recipes offer a fresh twist. For novices, this text could feel overwhelming but for those with at least some ice cream making experience, it should offer some fresh and fun ideas.

Of the 2 Salt and Straw Books, THIS is the one to get.
I now own both of the Salt and Straw books. I bought the other one first and while it's a good read and offers an excellent view on ice cream from a scientific perspective, the recipes are, for the most part just too exotic for me. Then I saw this book and had to have it. It is geared towards people like me who want more "traditional" flavors. And what's interesting is, they offer those recipes and more! With each traditional recipe, there are variations offered for those that want to stretch their ice cream pallet. If I had to choose just one of these two books, I would choose this, the second recipe book from Salt and Straw.

great recipes, organization and substitions could be way better
I’ve made two recipes from it so far, which have come out AMAZING (freckled mint and chocolate salted peanut butter). That said, the organization of the book, while intriguing, could use improvement. The pages with the base recipes should include a list of recipes/page numbers to make with them. The index is very incomplete for this purpose so you decide you want to make a basic ice cream or gelato and are searching for a recipe to go with the base. As others have noted, the chapter titles are sometimes random. Finally, it would be great to have alternate recipes if you have a different base on hand (okay, you think strawberry should be made into gelato, but maybe I want strawberry custard - give me a few substitution tips).
