Works fine and seems of high quality. I just received it today and I had the same issue as others in the comments that it hardly has any salt in it. I thought that it was made in England since that's what it shows on the bottom. Wrong, it's made in China. I sure wish that companies would be more transparent where a product is made. For the people complaining about the salt being really fine, you can adjust that from the bottom to get more coarse salt. The little booklet has instructions on how to do that. Hopefully, it will last a long time.

Made of plastic and it looks very nice .Came about a quarter filled with sea salt but I put my Celtic Sea salt in it and it works well.Seeing a few complaints about leaky salt on other reviews ,don't know if other people don't realize a bit of salt of left over,don't know how to fill up a salt shaker or understand condensation.First if you use it over boiling water the steam will cause salt to cling to the bottom and when it dries the salt falls off.Second to fill a salt shaker fill to the top of the container ,then put on cap and screw on nut.Then turn shaker upside down and release the tension on nut so the particles of salt fall from grinder.Then screw turn grinder all the way and then return to right side up.Then set grinder to your desired grind.That is what the extra room on top of shaker is for ,realizing who few "cooks" here know that.

This pepper mill was about the right size and claimed to have a durable and effective grind mechanism so I went ahead and purchased two units. Unfortunately, neither one of them worked at all as claimed so it is doubtful it was a matter of a single defective unit but just poor design and/or manufacturing. First, the small round knob that you twist off to refill the chamber is smooth and difficult to grab hold of, especially if you have tightened it down in an attempt to achieve a smaller grind (see more about this problem below). If your hands are the least bit moist or slippery, it's a real chore to get a grip on this thing. (My previous grinder that was similar in many ways to this unit had a ribbed knob on top which made opening it quite easy). This difficult-to-grasp knob is also the way to adjust the grind, at least as the manufacturer claims. First off, in the little enclosure that comes with the unit, it simply says "adjust grind" but they do not reveal how to do so and refer you to the web site for "instructions on use". Guess what... no help there... I had to email the manufacturer who did promptly answer but for such a basic function there is no excuse for not including instructions with the unit even if you could figure out how to adjust the grind otherwise. Well, it's all a moot point anyway since no matter how I loosened or tightened the knob, the grind did not change at all. And it was a very varied mix of very fine powder along with substantial chunks of peppercorn that I would not use in virtually any food preparation. I had reasonably good expectations for this device, partially based on the manufacturer's claims for functionality and durability. They fail on all counts and to call this a "precision" unit is just plain deceptive.

I had one of these for over 20 years. It worked great the entire time until I dropped it one too many times (which was many times over 20 years) and an important piece of plastic broke off. The grinding machinism was still in great shape. So I bought the set with salt and pepper grinders to replace a more expensive salt grinder (different brand) that broke within 2 months. I also get to see the pretty pink salt now. I don't feel like I can get the super powdery grind of salt I sometimes like for finishing but its still pretty fine. Hopefully they will last as long as my first one. I'm picking up another pepper grinder as a gift because it will go with any decor and will also look nice with the 4 pepper blend I'm adding to the gift. Plus the price is fantastic.

Great looking product, easy to fill and easy to clean. Rock salt tends to get stuck in the grinder periodically.
