Oca / Ocp Java Se 8 Programmer Practice Tests

I have never worked as a professional programmer but was able to pass the OCP by a significant margin using Jeanne and Scott's study guides. To prepare I used their OCP book and the OCA/OCP Practice Test book. For each objective I read the chapter, did the questions in the Practice Test book, and then did the questions in the OCP book. I am pleased with the Practice Test book questions because they ensured I did not miss key points from the chapter before doing the harder questions in the OCP book. I don't recall any questions on the exam that were not covered at some point in their books so I highly recommend both study guides for anyone preparing for their OCP: Java SE8.

I have to be careful complaining when its Jeannie B. 1st - I think the book & its overall presentation - is awesome & the authors code is always awesome. 4 stars instead of 5 because - like 1 other reviewer said - the errors - are pretty bad. 1 Example - Chapter 6: Working with Methods and Encapsulation - question 36 = wrong info. The culprit - I believe - is careless editing from the publisher. In part of the Answer to Question 36 - Chapter 6, it indicates that the optional specifier of an instance variable cannot come before the access modifier. I'm looking at the code in my IDE: final protected int thursday = 4; It compiles just fine on my computer. However, it's listed as a compile-time error in the book. The explanation says; "the final modifier cannot appear before the access modifier". That's beyond the bounds of errata - imho. Nevertheless, there's an incredibly generous amount of info provided & I believe the book can help one accomplish its stated objective, of honing skills already built, from other materials/sources.

I passed my Java certification exams thanks to this book.

An excellent cross section of questions on all topics on the java 8 exam. Highly recommended, particularly paired with the authors' previous exam prep books.

The book is good, I used it to pass OCA. However, I noticed that a few questions in the real test were asking something not covered in this book. Probably Oracle updates its question base once in a while so this book is a little bit outdated.

The book is very helpful. I am using it as a guide for my after school coding class at the high school level.

The content is okay and tests are thorough, comprehensive (that would be 5 stars), however the book is rendered wrongly in the Android app. Only the last digit is visible of task numbers.I hope it will be fixed andIt's a technical book, it should be in PDF format! Especially for this price and with this typesetting!Some java code examples contain bugs, which is unacceptable for such a book! I detected nearly 10 mistakes in exams answers due to badly reviewed code. Good and helpful book but annoying that it makes you fail online tests because its not been properly reviewed. I feel its really annoying to have to be checking erratas on their website when they can just go into the code and erase or add a few letters that makes the cade fails.

This review is poated right after I have read the firat 100 pages. The book is very good! Explains basics and exam topics very well. I have already finished a Java Masterclass online course before reading the book. I feel like this book brought be the extra knowledge I need for the certifications

Useful set of tests, very good for practice with the online access. Although the online application doesn't allow (yet) to select single set of tests in 'practice mode'.

Very good book. I find it a little bit expensive. Other than that a very good purchase.

As someone with around 5 years of previous java experience this was really effective and helpful in learning for my oracle associate certification for java 8.The exercises have great explanations to the how and why and the exercises are mainly focused on "Hey, lets test your knowledge in specific areas" compared to the "I want to prove to you how good in java i am with convoluted triple trick questions" a different book for this kind of certification.I recommend this to anyone that wants to take the certification!
