Can this be used to break Basalt rock?

Yes, as per my knowledge yes. I am owning this particular model & is beast in it's class. Have bored 12mm holes in granite to a depth of 50mm with no issues. However as with any machine, give a break to cool the machine incase u feel it's exuding heat at the hammering mechanism area & then continue your work. If just breaking stones is your task, then go for regular hammers (SDSmax) from Bosch, Hitachi or Hilti.
