It has held up wonderfully with heavy use of a rotary cutter and I appreciate its size for not needing to shift my fabric as much. My rotary cutter has left some marks/cuts, but it has not cut through unlike some others I’ve used. Storage could be a challenge as you don’t want to roll it up and have to wait for it to flatten out again, but I lean it (flat) against the wall behind a door instead and it hardly takes up any space. I can't find any product info on them for this. Thanks & Regards** A: They are not self healing. After using them often, you will notice where you cut the most and eventually, you will have trouble cutting your fabric where your rotary cutter has cut grooves in the mat. There is no way to repair them. I eventually just threw my mat out and use my largest olfa mat (36x48) for the cutting but use it on the table so that I still have the nice long work surface I love. I will not replace the large table size mat until I can find a reasonably priced self healing mat. **Q: I saw this mat in a store & it seems harder than other mats. Anyone notice that their rotary cutter blades are wearing out faster?** A: I didn't purchase my mat for rotary cutting but it works for so much more such as regular cutting and all the measured lines are great!!! Try not pressing the blade so hard on the mat. **Q: Can you use either side of this mat?** A: Both sides are usable to cut on. The grid is only printed on one side of the mat. **Q: Does this product smell bad when it arrives? Is there off-gassing similar to other cutting mats on the market?** A: No there is no smell and it doesn't seem to give off a gas odor like the green mats do. I have been using the Sullivans for several years now. I started because they are much larger and fit my cutting table. I do alot of quilting & gets used lots. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It’s sooo nice to have a cutting mat this large! *by B***E on February 18, 2019* I was worried about ordering this mat—some of the reviews mentioned they had difficulty cutting on it, but the price was so good I took the chance—and I’m glad I did! My fabrics cut beautifully (as long as the blades are sharp, of course); I only need to apply a light firm pressure; the fabric cuts cleanly and I’ve seen no scoring so far. The side with the numbers and grid is less “pebbled” than the back side, more of a matte finish, but I like that better for a clean cut. And it’s so great to be able to spread things out, and not have to reposition my old 2x3 mat over and over... This is a much thicker (about 2 mm or 3/32”) and nicer mat than my old Fiskars one, which was less resilient, harder to cut on, and prone to scarring. I’m sure this fits the matching craft table nicely, but my cutting table is an old flat door—which is actually about 3 inches narrower than the mat...but I have a cheap-and-easy fix for that: I got 4 of those 1/8 inch thick white foam core art boards at the dollar store, taped them together on the bottom and slid them under the mat, cutting off the excess. I slid the narrow excess strips of the art boards under the other boards at the edge of the table, to provide a little more support...and that’s enough so that I can still cut on the mat to the edge, as well as providing a nice bright white underlayer for the cutting mat. It also provides a nice resilience to the mat while I’m cutting. The first photo shows me lifting up the mat to show the art foam boards underneath. It didn’t take long to flatten out after unrolling; I just unfurled it and put a few chairs on top of it to hold it flat, and left it overnight (which was probably overkill). Neither I nor my daughter—who has a famously sensitive nose—detected any bothersome odors. If you need to keep it rolled up, try the clever yoga-strap hack used by another Amazon reviewer (check out the photos and you’ll find it).
