Is this a leave in or a rinse out conditioner?

It's meant to rinse out. It's very thick so I rub it in my hands to thin it before I put it in my daughter's hair. I used a recycled spritz Bourke and used a little of the conditioner with warm water and made leave in conditioner with it as well. It's not greasy at all and doesn't leave her hair crunchy either. It's great!

Can i use it for my newborn?

I personally wouldn’t use much on my newborn. As newborns they don’t need much. I would use the BABY Raw Shea Chamomile w/Argan oil by Shea Moisture. Try not to change the natural oils in the hair till it’s trully needed. Just try to keep it moisturized after it’s clean.

Does this shampoo have sodium?

looking at the list of ingredients. sodium benzoate is near the bottom of the list. Is that what you mean?
