The width of the wrap itself is just under 12", so the tube sticks out a little bit on either end. The ends of the tube rest in a "cradle" in the base of the dispenser to hold the roll steady while you pull out the wrap.1) If your favorite wrap comes on a tube that matches this size it will work with no probs. If the tube is the same length but a SMALLER diameter, it will also work fine.2) If the tube is LARGER than 1 5/8" diameter AND over 12" long, it will NOT work as it will jam in the "cradle" preventing the roll from turning when you pull on it. I have a roll of "Great Value" wrap from Walmart and it is like this - the tube diameter is too large to fit the cradle.If you have wrap on a tube like this, and are willing to do a little work, you can saw off the ends of the tube so it is 12" wide and it will work. (but see below...)3) If the tube is 12" or LESS in length, the diameter does not matter - it will not contact the cradle at all so it will work. "Glad" wrap is like this, the tube and wrap are both 12" wide. BUT - since the tube doesn't rest in the "cradle" the roll will be free to move up and down when you pull the wrap out. This might cause a problem, I don't know. **Q: Does this work for the 3000ft roll Stretch-tite wrap from costco?** A: No. This holds max 750 Stretch-Tite rolls. You can verify this on the stretchtite website. **Q: Can this be used for Aluminum foil?** A: Have not tried the aluminum foil yet. I would still think it would work with that.
