Visual Storytellers, Go for it!
I had been in two minds about purchasing this book for a long time, but I finally bought it after a bit of research online. The book is broadly divided into five parts: 1)general thought on narrative arts 2)drawing and composing a single image 3)composing shots with a purpose (stills and motion) 4)composing for continuity 5)the graphic novel All the chapters cover the basics of storytelling at each level. It's an excellent book for someone who is looking to start in visual storytelling mediums like comic books and even a bit of storyboarding. The author Marcos Mateu does an impressive job of tackling such a tough to teach subject in the most convenient manner. Shows a real mastery of hia skill. The images inside are beautifully illustrated in black and white inks. The print quality is really good. Overall a good value for money. Amazonas always did a good job of timely delivery and good packaging.

Perfect for sequential visual artist
have read about 30 pages so far, very good book. explains the fundaments and provides with techniques of composition. will update soon after i finish the book. there are lot of visuals and by just looking at the, you will get to know what the author is trying to say, however there are explainations in text. the tone is very colloquial as if he is in frint of you and talking to know which is very comfortable to read and understand the concepts.

Awesome!
Awesome! Thanks to Amazon and the seller Cloudtail India Ltd. I got the book at an amazing price. The packaging however was not hard covered and that resulted in a significant dent on the bottom right corner. But still m happy with the purchase. It was a steal deal. One of the great books to have in your arsenal if you want to learn about the art of graphic storytelling. Because, seriously, there aren't many such. It's really an impressive book coming from 20+ yrs experience of the author with animation giants like DreamWorks and Sony Pictures. The author is an illustrator, an expert on visual storytelling and his instructions and technique in the book are quite powerful and compelling. You won't regret buying it. Design Studio Press publishes just so very beautiful and good looking prints. Thanks again!

Good book to learn composition techniques
Good book to learn composition techniques. Can supplement your drawing or movie making if you already know some basics. This book is all pictures, so even if you don't want to learn there are a lot of pictures which will make you go, "hmm... I could use that in a movie or a comicbook"

Perfect book for curious beginner artists!
Definitely a "Worth it!" book. A friend and colleague (who is a very good artist himself) from Brazil, suggested me this book. And, I am glad I read it. It helps you understand so many basic concepts that beginners usually miss out. Must have.

Great Storytelling book for artists of all trade.
This is probably the best book you can buy if you want to learn lighting and compositions. It doesn't matter if you are an Animator, 3D artist, Story boarding artist, Painter or a Comic Artist, this book will serve you well for the rest of your life. Marcos Mateu-mestre has put his entire life's experience in this book. You will become a better artist just by looking at it. The hundreds of beautifully composed illustrations do absolute justice to the artist. Highly recommended.

Strong realism
I receive the book in good condition. The author begins to guide from the most basic drawings. Though the strong realism style is not what I am looking for, he is able to explain clearly.

Es un libro increíble que es totalmente útil, creo que no es un libro que se pueda empezar a aplicar siendo principiante, pero es un básico que hay que tener si estas aprendiendo

Better Than I Expected
It took about a month for this book to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. When I flipped through the pages, I was somewhat impressed with the artwork, but not very. A second flip-through (double-take) proved that the book was mostly made up of inking and not a whole lot of text. I began to worry if I'd been duped and wasted my money. What could I possibly learn from a bunch of black and white images with a paragraph or two thrown in? It reminded me of some the art books my university lists as required reading that cost an arm and really don't deliver. I could've gotten more artistic education out of a graphic novel. However, I finally found the time to sit and actually read it. It is an amazing book. Upon attentive study I realized the inkings weren't somewhat impressive they were incredible. It seems that the author, Mateu--Mestre, has a very minimalist approach to both art and instruction; yet, both his art and his lessons are immensely informative. The lessons are short and oh-so sweet. I learned new things just reading the first few pages because Mateu-Mestre isn't just trying to convey an academic sense of storytelling, but the very spirit of it. And I can tell you that is one of the major issues I have been tackling with my artwork i.e. breathing life into it, creating mood and emotion. Mateu-Mastre's book is a very good complement to two other books I bought, both by James Gurney - who does take a more academic approach to instruction and whose art is detailed and vibrant. I wish I would've come across these guys when I first began art college. Marcos Mateu-Mestre has created an excellent learning tool here, especially if you are a novice or mid-level artist. I so highly recommend this book that I would go as far as to say that it is a must have in any artist's library who is interested in narrative art e.g. comics, graphic novels, storyboarding, illustration, concept art, etc... I also recommend James Gurney's Color and Light.
