One Hand In A Cast; The Other Partially Functional; The Ability to Shower Unassisted - Priceless...
Surgery on my dominant hand and its subsequent casting posed quite a challenge; my other hand is only partially funtional. Since I was not to get the cast wet, showering was going to be tricky. My spouse travels for work, and I needed something to keep the cast dry. I had to be able to manage without assistance. Curad Cast Protector (Adult Arm) proved to be a lifesaver! Curad Cast Protector is easy to put on, even with only minimum grip-strength in my uncasted hand. Although the opening appears small, it stretched to accommodate the cast and then contracts snugly to fit my upper arm. The Curad Cast Protector slides easily over a fiberglass cast. The absence of a ring which needs to be adjusted or snapped closed is another positive. Made of a slightly heavy vinyl-type material, the Curad Cast Protector is ideal for those of us who are sensitive to or allergic to latex. Two cast protectors come in the package, but I believe I will be able to use only one during the six weeks I am in the cast. Amazon's prie was 30% less than the chain drugstores. I did experience some minimal leakage the first time I used the Curad Cast Protector, but have subsequently learned not to leave the top "dished" so that water pools in the depression. I simply ease the top upward as far as possible, making sure to do so evenly. Then I flatten the sides to my arm - voila, no more leaks! I am a smaller individual, so I am providing some measurements to assist you in making your purchase decision. My forearm, from the elbow to the end of my middle finger measures 16"; the Curad Cast Protector extends about 4" above my elbow. My cast measures about 13" at the widest point and the thumb is completely encased, extending at about a 60 degree angle. My upper arm measures about 10.5" where the Curad Cast Protector (Adult Arm) ends. If you are in need of a cast protector that works well for showering, is easy to use, and is reasonably priced, you should consider the Curad Cast Protector products. In my opinion, this is definitely a 5-star item.

Works very well
This has been a lifesaver (or at least a cast-saver)! It has allowed me to perform a number of necessary tasks with very little advance preparation. Instead of taping a plastic bag to my arm I just slide the cast cover up. It's easy-on, easy-off. The aperture fits my arm snugly without being uncomfortably tight. I doubt it would work for swimming laps, but it has remained watertight for showering. The material is both sturdy and flexible; I have yet to puncture it while washing dishes. I had wrist surgery, so my cast ends about 3" below my elbow. I don't pull the protector any higher than that. Like other reviewers, I'm not crazy about the mitten portion of the protector. The thumb is very short, while the finger area is ridiculously long. But if you look at the picture on the package, you'll realize that at least Curad is providing accurate up-front information. Before ordering this protector I purchased a similar item at a local branch of a chain drugstore. Even with help, I could not slide it on. The aperture was made of a very thick material that didn't stretch well at all. Our attempts to force that item over my cast were quite painful; luckily, I was able to return it. Just to be on the safe side, I ordered another box of these protectors since I'll be wearing my cast for a few more weeks. Why not -- two boxes of Curad protectors cost about the same as the single protector I returned!

Good Resonably Priced Choice
I had thumb surgery & was looking for a product that I could put on by myself. The Curad Cast Protector is easy to put on. It slides easily over my fiberglass cast & extends above my elbow. Although the opening appears small, it stretches to accommodate my cast and then contracts snugly (but much more comfortably than rubberbands) to fit my upper arm without tearing. It was a relief for my husband to no longer have to deal with the plastic bag/rubberband routine. The lack of any kind of closure device (ring, band)which needs to be adjusted is another positive. Two cast protectors come in the box, but I think I might be able to use just 1 in the 3 weeks that I will stll be in the cast. I've been using the product for 5 days and so far have not experienced any leakage. To give you an idea of fit, my forearm, from the elbow to the end of my middle finger measures 17"; the Curad Cast Protector extends several inches above my elbow. My cast measures about 11" at the widest point and the thumb is completely encased. My upper arm measures about 10" where the Curad Cast Protector (Adult Arm) ends. You should consider the Curad Cast Protector (adult arm), if you are in need of a cast protector that works well for showering, is easy to put on & take off, and is reasonably priced.

Good enough for $7
For $7, you get two mittens, which I was surprised by. As far as protecting all three varying sizes of casts I’ve had, it does fit snuggly around the arm. As long as I keep my hand up above my head & away from the shower spray at all times, the mittens work well enough (better than a bread bag or a trash bag, like my doctor suggested.) However, if I allowed my arm to rest by side or even parallel to the ground, water seeped in through the arm hole (& I’m not completely convinced it did find its way through the seam.) For my purposes, it deflected a lot of water from affecting my cast & made it easier to take a shower. My arm did get tired from being held up during showers though - especially when I had a heavy cast following surgery.

Very easy to use. Roomy enough not to be restricting. Seals well and keeps everything nice and dry. Does what it says on the tin.

These cast protectors are absolutely the best and I’ve tried many ‘things’ to cover my hand/arm cast that would be waterproof and comfortable. I’ve tried doubling up grocery bags, ziploc bags and boot covers holding them in place with elastics,. I’ve tried cast protectors that were rubber and you pump them up like a blood pressure cuff and the ones with the annoying huge plastic ring on them, etc etc. NONE of these can even come close to the Curad Cast Protectors and the price cannot be beat. You get two protectors in a pack, they are like a thin stretchable rubber. They’re very durable, comfortable and I’ve been using the same first one one now for at least 8 showers and still no leaking. I had thumb/wrist surgery and my thumb(cast) is quite wide, extended out at about a 45 egree angle. The opening on these protectors is small but it stretches out plenty to get over the cast and also covers my elbow. It then retracts enough to give a watertight seal without feeling too tight or cutting off circulation. I am so impressed with these that I took them to my surgeon to show him so he could let other patients know about them, so they don’t have to waste hours upon hours searching for something like this, as I did.

My husband is almost 300lbs and I was concerned it would be too tight. It came quickly and it was so easy to use, fit comfortably, and sealed perfectly. For 2 weeks he only used one and it's still in perfect condition. I definitely reccomend these for anyone with a half cast!
