Whether or not if the crock could withstand the rapid temperature change I know of no recipe for fermentation that calls for a hot brine on vegetables. Let your brine cool to room temperature, covered, then add to crock. **Q: Is this crock pot for outdoor or indoor?** A: Do to temperature it is usually used indoor, but there is no problem with using the crock outside. **Q: Can it get direct flame from or flame from dish warmers gas stove?** A: No, We do not think this is a good idea for ceramic products. **Q: Do you need a tampering tool or pounder to make pickles does it make a difference on pounder or tamper** A: I only make sauerkraut which requires a tamper. I don't think you need a tamper for pickles because you don't have to crush them like you do kraut. I was able to fit 46 pounds of cabbage in this 26L crock and possibly could have fit 50 lbs, it's nice and big.They packed it well and nothing was missing, arrived when it was supposed to via UPS.I'm quite surprised, however, that the handle/knob on the lid is not very big at all and the lid is pretty heavy, feels like 4-5 lbs. I know that no 2 crocks are going to be alike, but the handle on lid is not at all like it looks in their picture, it's about half the size! VERY small (1 inch X 1 inch), hard to grip for sure which really sucks! That is the only thing I am disappointed in, I will have to be very careful putting the lid on and taking it off the crock; seems like a no-brainer that it would be bigger/easy to grip.Also, on the outside the glaze is nice and smooth; inside the crock is definitely rougher, like extremely course sand paper, even rougher than 80 grit in places, I expected it to be a little nicer inside, not perfect, but not quite as rough. I only found one crack that appears to be from firing, it's centered between the handles along the joint at the top, just under the reservoir seal. I don't think it will be a problem, it's not deep and only about 6 inches long. Overall it seems very well made.The entire thing is actually much different than the photo shown on this site, I think it looks much nicer. Including photos because I was definitely wishing the photo was better so I could see what I was getting.The weights are, in my opinion, too small. I have another crock, a 7.5L, and the weights fit very nicely together/perfectly inside. With these there's a ton of space around them and they could be way bigger and thicker. In fact, the weights in my small crock are larger than these. I'd use them instead if I wasn't using the other crock right now.Still, glad I purchased this. After I filled it I was able to move it to the other counter that will be it's home for a month+. It was heavy so I grabbed around the bottom and had my son grab the handles and it was an easy move.
