Can't tell from image.** A: YES. This works like a sewing machine in that one thread is on one side, and another (really the same one, but it is used like a different thread) is on the other side. The needle is first pushed through, then the thread pulled out. Then the awl pulled back down and out the other side; now having thread on 2 sides of the work. Move over one stitch and pushed out to opposite side (Now 2 threads on same side). The loose thread on that side is inserted over the loop and back under for a locking stitch.Then for dangerous use such as climbing and safety gear, one can tie a square knot every stitch, or every several stitches, or simply twist the loose end around the loop 3x to prevent the stitches from running if one stitch gets cut. The thin thread is 45 pound tensile strength & the heavier thread is 55 pound tensile strength. COOL TOOL! The needles included are #8 both curved and straight. **Q: Where is it made?** A: Made in the U.S.A. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You can buy this tool even if you only need it once *by T*** on March 26, 2025* This tool was to replace one I got while in the Navy, 40+ years ago. The original never wore out, I just lent it to someone and it never came back. The quality of the new one is 90% as good as the original, with some of the metal parts simply being a smidgen lighter weight but which I believe will last just fine. For me, this is a tool I might go a year or two between uses but then use 2-3 times in a single week... that's just how your odd jobs come along sometimes. You can really make a nice and quality repair to a host of different products with this tool and if you ever run out of thread in the middle of a project, just get some dental floss and finish the job, the stitcher works just fine with floss as a replacement until you can buy another spool of waxed string. Good tool at a fair price, anyone can use it and with a little practice get very good results with one. Watch a you tube video if your trying yours for the first time and the instruction manual seems confusing. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great! *by B***S on September 13, 2024* This worked really well on a deer hide. Very easy to use.Hint: on the first hole you make, when bringing the string through, make sure the end is long enough to go the entire length of the stitching you're going to do, plus an inch or two.Also, after each stitch, take the time to pull evenly from both sides as you go, it will hold better and look neater.The awl-like form is great because you can pull it against your stomach or push against a table, whatever you need to do to get the force needed. And the needle stays in your control so you don't get stabbed or scratched.
