'The noblest and most lovable of the great philosophers ... ethically he is supreme' Bertrand Russell Published shortly after his death in 1677, the Ethics is Spinoza's greatest work - a fully cohesive philosophical system that strives to provide a picture of reality and to comprehend the meaning of an ethical life. It defines in turn the nature of God, the mind, human bondage to the emotions and the power of understanding - moving from a consideration of the eternal, to speculate upon humanity's place in the natural order and the path to attainable happiness. A work of elegant simplicity, the Ethics is a brilliantly insightful consideration of the possibility of redemption through philosophical reflection. Translated by Edwin Curley with an Introduction by Stuart Hampshire Review: Ethics by spinoza - Great but difficult to understand Review: Difficult to keep track of what some words mean - I don't have a background in philosophy. So this book was very difficult to understand. I had to watch a bunch of lectures in YouTube along with reading this book to understand anything

A book close to my heart
This little book is by an enlightened soul. Spinoza is the philosopher's philosopher, who creates a mathematical style model with theorems lemmas of the most non mathematical field of inquiry, metaphysics. This book reminded me that the divide between atheism and theism is not that easy such that any person with a brain would be an atheist. The definition of God, and the incorporation of God in his system, which is light years ahead of other canonical western thought. It advocates non duality, something which Hindus and Buddhists will appreciate, and leads to issues of mind, morality, ethics, reality, all questions in a little pocket book. Spinoza is so gentle and reading about his life, he has struck as a venerable figure to me, as a spiritual guide in the rationalist manner

Ethics of joy
Nietzsche's precursor in many ways. So far ahead of his time. Beautiful and interesting work.
