Manual Tailgate Lock for Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, Fits 1999 to 2007 Models (Black, PL1100)

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I recently purchased a tonneau cover (Bakflip F1 in case anyone is interested, and I love it!). Since my truck didn't have a locking tailgate from the factory, and I wanted a more secure bed with the tonneau cover to store items in, I found this product to accomplish just that. To be clear however, this isn't really a lock, as much as its a block plate. Basically you use the provided key to turn a piece of metal in the way of your tailgate handle, so it cannot open. Its a simple and brilliant design, that was very easy to install, and feels of decent quality. Its also important to note that this "lock" and toneau cover are theft deterrents and doesn't make your truck bed for knox. It will however, help with the "out of sight, out of mind" concept, and deter the casual thieves.

I bought this for my 2007 Silvy 1500 Classic (with a tonneau). Looks kinda factory and works well. Basically its a fancy way to jam the handle from opening when 'locked' when unlocked it just allows you to pull the handle to open. If you get a determined punk with a crowbar or some other tool, this thing ain't stoppin him, he's gettin it... Its made to give some piece of mind and to deter a quick grab of your items (if you have a bed cover) or worse your whole TAILGATE! FOR MY APPLICATION: From start to finish it took me about 20 minutes to install. I had to remove my black plastic liner off the inside of the tailgate. After the liner was off, I put one of the (2) 13mm bolts back in to hold the lock assembly in while I installed this unit (took all of 3 seconds) and bolted it up with their included security screw. REMOVE the 13mm bolt and put the black liner back on and put BOTH 13mm bolts in and all the screws for the liner. NOTE: What I did was remove the POP & LOCK sticker, looks better. On the lock solenoid itself, I took a dremel and grinded off the stamped KEY CODE right next to where you insert the key. Anyone could order up your same key and use it to access the lock. Write the key code down or keep the extra key somewhere safe. That was kinda stupid on their part. I gave it 5 stars, does what it says, easy to install, shipped fast and no issues with the unit.

Great product. Very easy install- took me only about 10 minutes. Works as promised. This will most likely not defeat a determined or professional thief, but it will deter the casual, "looking for an easy grab" kind of criminal. It is well worth the money and deserving of 5 stars. Now the but... The company will not honor the warranty if the item was bought from what they refer to as an "auction site." To quote: "Please note: Pop & Lock Products purchased on auction sites such as Ebay, Amazon and Craigslist, to name a few, will not be covered under factory warrantee under any circumstance". It goes on to say that if you buy from these sites, you do so at your own risk. Now, with Amazon's return policy, this shouldn't be a problem if a defect is caught early. However, if the return period has passed and the warranty period is still in force (1 year from date of purchase), that would be a problem. Just be aware of this before you buy.

Just installed it today so I don't have much real world use with it, but I'm pretty sure you're worried about the fitment just like I was before ordering. I've got a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 and this might be the easiest thing I've ever installed; took like 5 minutes and fits great first try with no modification. Not sure how it feels on other trucks, but if you've got the same truck I do, it'll work great!

While this is identified as a fit for my 2006 Silverado there is a note in the installation instructions, which you have to download online, that references "handles mounted slightly lower in respect to the bezel..... This can cause the key to be difficult to remove after locking". The fix, per the instructions, is to "remove the cam, put in a vice, and bend 10-30 degrees". So it is a known issue for a part that, per Amazon, fits my vehicle. The manufacture fix is for me to disassemble and modify. Seems that the lock should be provided with a modified cam. It's a small piece of metal. Can't cost more than a few bucks. What if, after I modify this, it still does not work. They going to take it back? Seems like the manufacture is being "lazy" and "cheap". Warranty states that products purchased through "auction site such as Amazon........ are NOT covered". Not sure why Amazon offers this product.

Update – 11/16/2025: I’ve had some valuable items in the bed of my truck, and without a lock I was starting to feel vulnerable. I removed the backup-camera bezel and reinstalled the OEM bezel. I then ordered a new Pop & Lock device, and it fits perfectly now. I’ll also be relocating the rear-view camera to the license plate area. Original Review: The POP & Lock Manual Tailgate Lock is a solid, well-built product and I really like the design. It’s a simple, effective way to secure the tailgate. That said, I recently added a backup camera to my old 1999 Silverado, and the kit came with a bezel that has a raised hump for the lens. Unfortunately, this makes it impossible to install the lock as designed. If you don’t have a backup camera bezel, I’d definitely recommend this lock. But if you do, just be aware there may will be itment issues unless POP & Lock eventually offers a slimmer version.

I have a 20 year old GMC pickup and needed to be able to lock tail gate. Looked around local to locate a suitable unit none was found. Saw this unit on Amazon and tried it out . Works perfect and easy to install. Good product 👍

Lock was easy to install, work smoothly. Would suggest to anyone installing this lock to spray the lock down with fluid film or other corrosion inhibitor as the tailgate will see a lot of spray from driving in wet or snowy weather.

It’s a solid lock, really easy to install with the instructions. Works with the stock handle. I tried really hard to break it before I wanted to trust it. I couldn’t break it by force. Im either weak or this is a great product
