I originally purchased the High tech pet door, which I do not recommend it had nothing but problems. The solo door operates with a magnetic collar which takes the worry out of it failing. I ordered 5 collars which all fails from hightech pet. This was a big concern as I live in the northeast US and it gets very cold. If the collar failed during the extreme cold my dogs could have froze to death. Solo is a bit More expensive but 100% worth it! Dogs have been going in and out with out any issues. Just make sure you follow the directions for setting it up and once your dog gets used to it change to the recommended setting and the door should last a long time. Review: Works as advertised - Works awesome! Lets the dog out and keeps the cats inside! Update: After a few months, during Winter, it stopped working. What I found was an IC on the circuit board with pins not soldered. The pins made contact with the circuit board until it got cold and the board warped slightly. I resoldered the IC and removed the board from the plastic box. Remounted the board using standoffs for easier access if the board craps out again.
