Great for ID! A Good Reference
A vital guide for either the informed recreation diver or the pacific coral reef student/researcher/worker. The ID photos are some of the best I've seen snd the information content is small but involving and useful. Interestingly, I found the simply drawn lined diagrams at the beginning of each section of particular use in order to help distinguish between the fish families so if when diving - the name of the species escapes you as it speedily swims by (easily done with most tropical fish with such diversity to be seen in life stages let alone between species) you may still be able to deduce the family to which it belongs with this book's help. A good investment should you be keen to improve your tropical fish ID.

The only downside is that it adds more weight than I'd like to my dive bag
One of the most comprehensive Fish books I've seen. The only downside is that it adds more weight than I'd like to my dive bag, but I lug it around pretty much everywhere I go diving as I find it indispensable in identifying fish. Have spent many a nerdy evening over drinks with local drive instructors poring over it and enthusing over some obscure finned creature. There is a PDF version available which my partner has very conveniently on his phone, and while it does make weight a non issue, I do miss thumbing through the pages to get to what I'm looking for...

A must have!
I am the owner-operator of a scuba diving company in Bali, Indonesia. This is the go-to book for all of my dive staff - and hugely popular with our guests too. Well-laid out with great pictures and accurate information. If you're going to buy just one book for the Indo-Pacific (and with this one, you don't need a second), this is the book to choose.

Excellent description and photos
Recommended by fellow diver. Excellent descriptions and detailed photos set into sections. Sometimes hard to find the actual fish, but the cross reference index is helpful, with souch choice. Would recommend

a very comprehensive book
a very comprehensive book to aid identification of fish in a very large area of water. If you're only diving in one area e.g. the Red Sea or the Maldives, then specific books on these areas cover most of the more commonly seen fish without confusing the reader, and often offer bigger photos and more info about the habits of certain fish species and families. This book packs in a lot and is the choice for the more experienced diver.

A must have for every diver!
I can't tell you how many times I have consulted this book after a dive. It is treated like the bible in most dive shops I have been at. The photos are excellent, the writing concise and informative, and considering the number of fish species out there, the range it covers in such a compact book is incredible. Would recommend to every diver and tropical fish lover out there.

Excellent reference book
I like this book in preference to some fish ID books because of the methodical way its laid out. Given that the chapters are based of physical characteristics of similar groups of fish, I find it makes it easier to identify an unknown fish from a picture (I've taken...).

Good book
If you dont already have fish identification books, then this is a good place to start, however there is ALOT of overlap between this book and the indo- pacific version by the same publisher - same images and wording, so be careful your not just buying the same book with a different title!
