Most Amazing Heater! And QUIET!!
Warning, long review. And probably TMI. TLDR: Absolutely awesome heater once you figure out the best placing and setting. And it DOES work well even in an RV in below freezing temps. Pro tip: Plug into an outlet, not an extension chord, unless it's a heavy duty outdoor yellow one. Don't plug in other things on the same plug/breaker. This heater is nothing short of amazing. I wasn't impressed with the fans put out by this company, because while they move air you can't really feel it unless you're right in front of it, but this heater is just unbelievable in how well it heats a room. Regular space heaters are dangerous at the Hi temp, do Ok at the Low temp, and only truly can be safely run when you're at home. They also, for all the intense heat they can put out, don't really heat a room that well. I live in an RV and usually ended up using 1 heater in 60 to 70 degree weather, 2 space heaters in 50 to 60 degree weather, 3 in 40 to 50, and 4 in below 40. To be safe, I would buy new ones every year or two and run the 4th one to an outside plug. My electric bill would be as high as my AC bill in the summer. The Vornado heats the ENTIRE room as long as you have it set in the optimum spot and leave it on to regulate temperature. You wouldn't think it could. The first time I tried the 1st one I bought last year, I thought it was broken or defective because it put out very little heat, or so it seemed. But I gave it time to heat the room and when I came back in an hour later, it was almost uncomfortably warm. *TIP: It needs to be set up to where it can blow across a room unobstructed and have air flow to the backside.* I use this in my bigger area (living room and kitchen), which is 20Lx10Wx9H, and keep my ceiling fan on the reverse flow. What I found: The HI (3) setting I reserve for when it's under 50 outside. This is the setting that will allow you to feel some heat if you personally need warming up. The medium (2) setting is great for 45 degrees and up. The low (1) for 55 and up. But that's for me in my RV's main area. It may be different for a better insulated room with lower ceilings. I do have to run a second heater, a space heater, to add some extra heat in the room when it gets below 35, but that's because of my poor insulation, not because the Vornado is in any way a bad heater. It's also so quiet you wouldn't know it's running until you get close to it. Vornado sticks by their warranty and responds fairly promptly. The ONLY con about this heater is finding the optimum setting as it changes depending on room temperature, and if there's a cold wind blowing outside. I tend to run it between 3 and 6 depending on outside temps and what setting I have it on. Other people may find they need to set it differently. I like my RV between 70 and 75 in the colder months for my elderly cat. As of now 10/12/19, we dropped to 48 degrees from 80 in the space of an hour yesterday morning. I left a space heater running in both rooms (at the marked spots I had figured out equalled 70-75), because I couldn't get to my Vornado quickly, and because it had originally said we would get up to 70 degrees. It only got up to 55 outside and I came home to inside being 65, with the heaters likely having run the whole time (On Low). I found my Vornado and set it up on HI, left the space heater on at 70, just in case, and waited. Within an hour, my RV was at 76. I adjusted it to 5 at medium and it dropped to 70 inside in an hour. I left it at 5 but turned on HI and went to sleep, with the space heater still on for support just in case. Woke up to 75 degrees inside, 55 outside. So, I think I've figured out the settings: At HI 4 is 70, 5 is 75, 6 is 80, 7 is 85, when you leave it on constantly to regulate the temperature. Approximately. I'm sure the heat setting makes that vary some, but maybe not. I don't think my space heater has come on since the Vornado got going. This is by far the best investment you could make on a heater for a room. Edit 11/11/19 I left this morning with it being warm at 70. It was predicted to drop to the 40s by 8 pm. No problem, I thought. I left the Vornado on at #2 heat #5 on the dial. I also had a digital space heater set at 72 on Low just in case I got home late. Well, it dropped 4 hours early and I raced home at 6 because I was sure my poor elderly cold sensitive cat would be freezing. I've never had less than 4 heaters going in 40 or under weather. It's a nice 70 degrees inside while it's 35 outside. See pictures. I'm going to try only running the Vornado tonight on #3 heat #5 on the dial and see what happens. It's supposed to get down to 28 tonight. Edit 9/15/20 I dusted off my Vornado and used it last week when we had a cold front blow through. We went from 75 lows to 50s low and a high the next day of 75. It was the only heater on during this 24 hour period of time and with my elderly cat having passed away, heating the place above 70 isn't necessary anymore. The heater worked great. I set it on the #2 setting and put the dial between 3 and 4. With cold wind blowing outside and temps in the 50s the heater managed to heat my RV up to 75. I adjusted the dial a smidge and my place stayed between 70 and 72 all night. I will never buy any other brand of heater ever again as my main heat source. Edit 11/11/22 Still LOVE this brand of heater. Best in it's class plus some! My ONLY complaint is and has been the internal thermostat. We had a drop from 70s to 40s yesterday. I have since purchased a thermostat plug specifically for heaters and ACs, still on the dedicated plug, that more accurately reads temps in the room, particularly in the area I want a certain temperature. Paired together, it's a "set it and forget it" situation. I never again have to worry that as long as the power is on, my RV has reliable heat in cold temps, and that it won't go into roast mode, or shut off too soon. AND my electric bill dove down to below $50. Win win win! I have not received anything at a discount for my review or had any offer of such.

Awesome Room Heater
This is a great, little heater. I bought it for a downstairs guest bathroom that always seems a little chilly, especially if you were showering. It's perfect for that application as it will quickly heat up the somewhat small room and keep it that way. I have used it more in our office, however, which is on the northwest side of our home and gets the worst of the cold winter wind when it's blowing. It always seems to be cold at those times. I plug this in near the desk chair and it's instant warmth without negligible sound. I have to look for the little red light and/or put my hand in front of it to make sure it's on. The tip-over switch immediately turns it off if I lift it or move it slightly so I'm comfortable that it's safe. It heats up the 15 x 15 foot room in no time and I've had to turn it off as it gets too warm after a while, though, of course, it's not the only heat source in the room. I highly recommend this heater. I love it! Oct. 2015 update- I purchased this early last December and use it mainly in our lower level office, which is a 15' x 15' room with an 8 1/2 foot ceiling. The room has one furnace vent and a large, southern facing "triple" window. The issue is that it is exposed on three sides to our mid-west winter wind and often requires additional heat to keep me comfortable. I set this little heater 3 to 5 feet from me and will have to turn it off within 15-30 minutes or move it further away, without it even being on high, maybe 75%. Of course this depends on the outside temperature and my clothing, etc. But, for me, this is a perfect heater, quiet and efficient. Vornado also makes a similar nursery heater that includes a remote temp control that works pretty slick too, but it's substantially more expensive, of course. I love this model and would purchase another in a heartbeat.

Hot, smoked dog hair apparatus but outstanding customer service!
UPDATED REVIEW: I took another shot at cleaning my heater at the beginning of this cold season because I ended up forgetting about the heater once it got warmer out. So, I kept it stored in it's box until taking it out and cleaning it thoroughly, trying to look in to be sure it was free from debris. I plugged it in and continued watching and smelling for any burning type of smell. Success! I had my heater back and used it, taking good care of it. I used it from October until the end of January when it completely stopped working. The light came on, but the fan did not and it was not giving any heat. When turning the dial, it did sound as if the thermostat was kicking on, but still no heat. This sounds like a fairly common issue per other reviews. I checked everything that I could think of. I emailed Vornado on January 24, 2020 with the issue, model and serial number. I received a response on January 31, 2020 with a request to cut the cord 1-2" from the unit and picture of it showing the serial and model numbers. I replied on February 4, 2020 with picture and quickly received a reply that a new unit will be shipped out to me, which I received today, February 7, 2020. So, I received a brand new unit within 2 weeks, which surely would have been even sooner if I had replied sooner. I am SOOOO pleased with the customer service and that they gave me no turn-around or hassle with my complaint and didn't require me to ship the old one back or wait for repairs. I bumped up the stars to 4 for the awesome customer service and performance of the heater when it did work. The seemingly faulty design causing it to suddenly die, how difficult it is to clean out or even see inside of the unit, as well as the large size of the gaps between the slats allowing in extra debris kept me from giving 5 stars. However, with that said, I would definitely purchase another Vornado unit, should the kinks be worked out and updated. The great customer service from Susan made all the difference! One last note- I could have sworn that I registered my old unit, but I have not come across anything in the info with the new unit stating to do so, but I'll check online to be sure. If so, don't forget to send in the warranty card if you receive one or register it online if it is an option. May save you a headache should your unit be faulty. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I purchased this heater 7 months ago and have been using it fairly often since. I bought it mainly to use in my frigid office at work given reviews that it is really quiet and had positive safety reviews. It IS very quiet- a bit of white noise, but nobody would ever know that a space heater was running underneath your desk. The heat that it gives off is incredible. It quickly warmed up my mid-size living room to a really cozy tempetature when we had frigid temperatures and allowed me to keep the furnace set low because we were burning through heating oil so quickly. The unit does NOT get hot at all and the tipping safety shut off worked great. I LOVED this heater.... I actually took it back and forth from home to work and back home every single day. I cleaned per the directions in the guide often. Yesterday, I flicked it on and started to do some reading, but a really strong burning smell caught my attention and the heater was smoking. I turned off, unplugged. A bit later I went to take a look at it, but it is really hard to see inside of it the way that the vent slats are tilted. The only way to open it up I think, is by the 2 screws by the handle. I couldn't get them to budge and stopped before I stripped the screws. Looked at the cleaning instructions just in case I had missed something. It states to use a vacuum attachment to clean it from the outside and clean the vent slats. I found an angle which to hold the heater to be able to see some of the inside- not a one person job because of the awkward shape of it. Using the long skinny wooden end of a incense stick, I inserted it inside and felt around hoping to fish out whatever was in there. Dog hair and more dog hair. Burnt. This would have caught fire if I left it running. I worked at it for a long time then used the hairdryer on the high cold setting to blow anything left and loosened out... not much flew out. Plugged it in thinking that I got it all... started smoking. I'm done with it. I did send my warranty card in, so I'll return it, but the gaps between the vent slats are pretty big and apparently suck a lot in... there is no screen like a hairdryer has to filter and keep dust and hair out. The cleaning instructions don't do the job and it is not easy to open... if you even SHOULD open it at all. If you have a dog that sheds and even if you keep it cleaned up, I would absolutely NOT purchase this. Other things can fit through well also. The replacement will be staying at the office I guess!

The best heater I've used, nearly perfect. Technical review.
This heater is the best one I've found, and I've tried *many* types of heaters. It puts out a warm to hot stream of soft air that works great for heating a room. It has a power switch, wattage switch for different output levels, and a thermostat to set the point at which it turns on and off. It also has a safety tip-over switch as heaters are required to have nowadays. The heater works very well, and is the quietest forced-air heater I've come across. Even the thermostat is quiet as it clicks on and off, can barely hear it as opposed to the loud click of most heaters. For forced air heaters you generally have two types, wire element and ceramic element (There is also infrared with fan but I'm not considering that here). They are both electric, but have different element watt-area densities. You can concentrate 1500w in a very small space with a small element producing a hot puff of air, or you can spread the 1500w over a larger surface and get more voluminous comfortable air. A ceramic element is small, concentrating 1500w in a very small area, producing a small poof of extremely hot air, which I don't like because the air doesn't get far. In contrast this is the wire-element style which heats a larger volume of air not as hot, but still plenty hot. I prefer the wire-element kind as this one is, because you can warm yourself up in front of it. It also heats a room more evenly as air is more distributed. Some things you should be aware of. Firstly when you turn on the heater for the first time there will be some motor bearing noise as the bearings are worked in for the first time. I've used 3 of these and it will go away in a few minutes during the first run and doesn't come back. Second my unit has some thermostat bounce, in that it clicks on and then off, then a few seconds later clicks on until the set point is reached. Many heaters I've used do this, which is a property of the bimetallic strip thermostats manufacturers use. This could be alleviated with a different model thermostat, but the ones that don't bounce have loud clicks. Have an electrician make sure your electrical situation is safe. They can make sure outlets and wire connections to them are in good shape, as a bad outlet and/or connection to it can create a hazardous situation. In many cases this is not noticed until a high amp draw appliance like a heater is plugged in and used, which stresses weak electrical connections. Should you feel your outlet, plug, or cover plate getting hot call an electrician and have them take a look at the outlet, and the other ones in the circuit. Since outlets are daisy-chained, a bad connection could exist in an outlet upstream as well. I caught several of these in my house, where the neutral line had gotten so hot it blackened, due to a "backstab" connection to the outlet. "Backstab" and "Backwire" connections are different and your electrician will know the difference.

Pretty expensive for a 1500W max heat setting
Pretty expensive for a 1500W max heat setting. It warms a small space, but is not - as quoted in the description - “Perfect ... for bedroom, living room, office, or any indoor space that needs consistent comfort,” Other 1500W room heaters cost half the price. What changes with the Hi-Med-Lo heat settings is the wattage to the coil, while the fan stays at the same speed. Thus, it does not push warm air farther or stronger by changing from low to med to hi, but gives off more intense heat at the same flow rate. That's the theory of Vornado's proprietary vortex heat. False advertising and stretching the truth to boost sales is one of my pet peeves. And although this kept a single bedroom warm during SW Florida’s 2 week cold snap, I’m giving it ONE star, and will be sending it back within the return window, despite that it worked well for that small room, the "turn-off-when-tilted" feature is good, and my dogs liked laying in front of it. Google results for "Is Vornado made in *****?" all say it is an American company. This one was made in Vietnam. Other models of theirs are made in China. (Yes, I verified that.) I've used all sorts of Vornado fans for years with no problems. But I expect the company to be more forthright (ie less concealing) about its manufacturing and quality control. Why do you think there are so many reviews citing fast coil burnout and limited use time?

Great functionality, but potential problem if you're sensitive to chemicals
We must return our Vornado MVH Vortex Heaters. And we're really disappointed that they didn't work out for us. Pros: --- Very easy-to-understand controls: Off/On switch. Choice of 3 Power Levels (labeled I, II, III). Thermostat (labeled 1 thru 7). --- The thermostat worked well. Here's how I used it: When the room was comfortably warm, I slowly turned the thermostat dial down, just until the fan stopped. Then I slightly turned the thermostat back up, careful to stop before the fan started again. I'd leave it alone, and the room seemed to stay at that comfortable temperature all day & night. --- The fan is quiet. Just a soft little whoosh that's easy to ignore for a very long time. For me, it was only a teeny bit annoying during the day after many hours. But it helped me sleep at night, like a quiet white noise machine. --- The fan is extremely effective at circulating the warm air throughout the entire room, within just a few minutes. The room is approx. 11 feet (W) x 17 feet (L) x 9 feet (H). --- A sleek black color, with a grey front vent. Attractive & unobtrusive. It doesn't draw attention to itself. Cons: --- Made in China. Not made in the USA. My online research indicates many problems with Chinese products. In particular, I found many consumer reports of sensitivity to the materials used in the Chinese products. And here is where I get to the reason why we must return our Vornado MVH Vortex Heaters. I wish I'd done this research before making our purchase. When I first turned on the Vornado MVH Heater, it emitted a strong smell, so I ran it for approx. 6-9 hours in a well-ventilated area until I felt the smell had sufficiently dissipated. Only then did I run the heater in a relatively unventilated room. After only a couple days, I'd developed a headache, nausea, and sharp stomach pains. So, I unplugged the heater and removed it from the room. I kept my windows wide open for a few days, and I recovered. I should point out that I didn't repeat this experiment -- this isn't a science report. But, I have enough life's experience to know that I become physically sick from chemicals that most other people merely find unpleasant. For example, after only a few hours of exposure to second-hand cigarette smoke in a poorly ventilated area, or after exposure to bus fumes on a 3-hour round-trip work commute, I'm physically sick with headache, nausea, and vomiting. Those were repeatable experiences. If you've read this far, I'll share with you that I just found out that I test positive for a genetic variant that impairs my body's ability to detoxify. And that's science enough for me. It's worth mentioning that I've not had a similar problem with Vornado fans that don't heat the air (for use in the Summer months, just to get a good breeze). So we theorize the heat is causing the outgassing of whatever chemicals are contained within the Vornado MVH Vortex Heater. I do plan to buy a new Vornado fan for the Summer, and I'll see how it goes. So, maybe it would make a difference if Vornado used all American materials (because I expect they're under stricter regulations). Vornado, are you listening? A significant portion of the population has genetic variants that impair their ability to detoxify. That is real science. So, maybe this is a good niche market for you. At least, please think about it, thank you. :) Here's the bottom line: I think the Vornado MVH Vortex Heater is a really great heater for functionality (5 stars). But it might not be the heater for you if you are sensitive to chemical exposures.

Great value
This was recommended by my neighbor. I purchased this as it was a very COLD winter for 2025-2026. I live in an one bedroom and had to use it for the room that I was in. It great and fast for heating but it did not heat up my whole apartment. It's very quiet and was great when I was using it either in my kitchen or bedroom.

Had high hopes... just 'meh'
After reading all these amazing reviews about how this little unit took their -50 degree garage and made it balmy and warm. So, let's get a real review going here so you can decide if this is the right thing for you. Room to be heated: 14x19 insulated with vaulted ceilings located in my shop, going from 8' to 12'. I'm located in Oregon, so we have pretty moderate temperatures, usually around 40 degrees. I was hoping this little vortex heater would get it to 60 degrees fairly quickly, since it's a home gym and I don't need it that warm. 1. I was previously using a traditional heating unit that used 1500 watts and would get really hot. It wasn't great, and I felt like I was using a ton of electricity to heat my room. BUT, it did heat up the room after about 1 hour. 2. I got this new vortex unit, and chose this over the larger units because it has a manual on/off twist knob, so I can hook it up to an amazon smart outlet, and from inside my house say "Alexa, turn on the gym" about 30 minutes before going out to workout, and have the heater already be on. Easy peasy. So, how does it do? Well, after leaving this on for 1 hour, my gym has gone from 40 degrees to 45 degrees, sometimes 46. It struggles to get it much hotter, and after working out for another hour, the gym is usually around 47-49 degrees. Also, the knob to turn it and set the desired temperature doesn't work for crud. After leaving it on forever, I slowly turned the knob down until the unit shut off. This is supposed to set the thermostat on the unit to the temperature that the room is at. Well, I can tell you that when the unit kicked off and then back on, it came up to temp, went past the temp, and kept going. No bueno. Maybe my expectations are just too high. I bought a larger unit, but oddly enough they are both 1500 watts, so not sure that the larger casing means it actually produces more heat or more 'vortex'. I tried both of them, and it seems as though bigger isn't better. At least in this case. Plus, the larger unit is all electronic controls, so I can't plug it into my smart plug and have it turn on when the plug turns on. In the end, I'm not sure these units are any more efficient than the normal type space heaters. My old space heater has shut off protection if it tips over, so I don't buy the 'safety' gains that these vortex units have. Second, they are all 1500 watts, so seems to me to be the same. So, I then brought the unit into my master bedroom to see how well it would work. Even with my house set to 68, the unit couldn't get my room much past the existing temperature. My master bedroom is 24x22, with additional master bathroom as well. This should have been able to raise the temperature easily past 75 degrees, but it didn't. Well, it's small and quiet. It's not that it doesn't work, I just don't think it works any better than the standard space heater for half the price.

Low noise level, regulated power levels, more even temperature in different parts of the room.
Satisfied with it. Some points to explain why: 0) I will not tell you fairytales about heat efficiency, because it has heating element, it delivers as much heat as consumed electric power. Q=(I×I)×R×t: whe: Q - Joules, I - Amperes, R - Ohms, t - seconds. And it is the same for all the electric heating elements with fan. Any other option for effeciency can be only in the case of heat pump, i e. unit transfering heat energy between 2 heat exchangers Another things are heat delivery, power levels, noise levels, and less smell. 1) The fan of this heater creates more airflow then average, and mixing air in the room. It helps to avoid hot upper and cold lower levels of air, at least make this effect less pronounced. They call it "Vortex technology" 2) I measured power consumption by smart plug - 725W, 1150W, 1500W. I use it on lowest setting and it helps to avoid "cycling" - cycles of overheating and overcooling. 3) Noise levels is lower than average, except Dyson. It is from my subjective experience with other heaters 4) Last, but not the least - electrical heaters can't "burn oxygen". Burning is process of oxidation of something. To burn oxygen, heater has to oxidize its own heating element. If heating element still exists - it is no burning. What happens - frying of small particles of dust by heat when air goes through heater, and we can smell it. This smell, and dry air (relative air humidity concept) creates feeling that something burnt. In case of this heater, more airflow and lower temperature of heating element helps to make this effect less noticeable. My another heater is Dyson AM09, it's another class, but I'm satisfied with both of them. Don't trust me without fact-checking. Read other reviews, use your logic, consider finances, and make your choice.

A Great Chill-Chaser
The Tornado MVH does a great job taking the chill off our basement theater. It heats at a rate of about 1 degree every 10 minutes (in our space) and quietly warms the air. Although the look of the grill implies fan-like air movement, it gently distributes the heat evenly without strong waves of hot air. I wasn't sure if this heater would be sufficient to warm our 12'x15' space (which is open to another area of similar size). It does a great job. There is a thermostatic control and three heat settings, so once the room reaches the desired level of comfort, it will shut off as needed to hold the temperature. A red light above the grill indicated when the unit is operating, so it's easy to remember to turn it off when leaving the room. The outer case remains cool, so there is no danger to children or pets when it is running. Overall, this was an excellent choice for us.

Great little heater - only wish they added a "fan only" setting
great little heater, heats up room very quickly and has a pleasant warm breeze (almost feels like hawaii! but without the scents and moist air, of course.) Much better than a heat dish, especially without the light and buzzing. Quiet as advertised, but not silent, but the sound is not noticeable at all. Only "complaint" I have is that it can't be used as a fan in the summer, as the settings are only warm/med/hot settings - I imagine it would have been a simple matter to disable the heater, but for whatever reason the manufacturer chose not to have that function. Regardless, highly recommended for small rooms, I can see myself using it throughout the winter and wish I bought this much earlier.
