Golden Curry Sauce Mix, Medium Hot, 7.8 Ounce

I lived half my life before discovering Japanese curry. The taste is much milder than an Indian or Thai curry with less heat. It is kind of a cross between curry and stew. The curry is very easy to prepare . You cook the meat and vegetables then add in the curry roux with water to make the sauce. It tastes great and you have a real dinner prepared in 15 minutes.

I usually use Thai, Chinese, and Indian curries. This is the first time for a Japanese curry. It tasted great - I'm sure the MSG in it helped! I made Japanese ground beef curry (NYT cooking recipe). Unlike other curries that are powders or pastes, these are small candy bar like bricks that melt into your food as you cook it. There are two individually wrapped packages with 4 squares each per 7.8 ounce box. For my recipe, it took one package. I have one package remaining for another time.

I’d never tried Japanese curry, so I didn’t know what to expect from this, but I LOVE Thai and Indian curries was excited to give this a try. The sauce comes in blocks reminiscent of Hershey’s chocolate. There are enough blocks for two 4-5 serving meals. There are instructions on the back, but I only loosely followed them, along with another recipe that I found online. I used onions, carrots, potatoes, garlic, ginger, and bone broth. We’re not big meat eaters, so we left out the meat- and it didn’t need it! The sauce thickened up nicely, and paired well with rice. The taste is really savory, more like a gravy than other curries I’m familiar with. It is labeled “medium hot” but I tasted no heat at all. It seems like an amazing comfort meal for a cold winter day. The next time we make it, I’m interested to experiment with making it sweeter (some recipes use grated apples) or spicier (with chili powder/sauce).

I enjoy making a large pot curry with beef and vegetables. My granddaughters, daughter, husband and mother love it and it is so easy to make and delicious!

They tase great and the price is good but way too much salt to eat to often. For me anyway.

This is one of the best curry ever! Easy to use and delicious. Gets the broth thick and creamy really fast using couple of cubes.
