Light, small, EZ, and cheap
Very nice light weight tent for backpacking. I set it up and was very happy with the design and quality. I watched a few youtube reviews of this tent and none of them really go into detail on construction of it. The tent is basically 2 poles bent and two steaks at each end that stretch out the tent and balance the poles from falling over. I was a little concerned about the design (compared to other tents) but after setting the tent up the first time it was very stable and not difficult to construct. I've had an old 3-4 person Eureka! tent for 15+ years that was passed down to me and they are good tents. I needed a lightweight one for a multi day biking trip. I looked at the Solitaire and the Spitfire, while both look like good tents I choose this one based on price. For under $100 you really cant find a better light weight tent then this one. Most others are $200-300 and basically the same thing because they cant add features due to weight. I have yet to use it in a rain storm but I think it would hold up fine. 5 stars in my opinion and highly recommend it. Click "YES" this review was helpful, thanks. ***Update*** After 2 nights of real world use I have to agree this is the best light wight tent for the money, period. If you are hiking or biking and need a light weight tent this is the one you want to get.

What a Great Product!
I bought this tent in preparation for a solo 2 wk road-trip down the Oregon Coast - the main purpose for buying being that I didn't foresee myself spending $100 a night just on accommodations. So, it arrived in the mail and I immediately set it up in my living room. Took all of 5 mins to look at the directions and set it up. I packed the super light tent in my suitcase, which took up very little space/weight, and flew to Oregon. Now, for some reason, perhaps because it was my first time camping alone, and I was a tad nervous at first, I thought I should sleep with my head at the far end... Do NOT do this! hahah I woke up so claustrophobic and unable to get out because I couldn't sit up!! So, sleep with your head by the entrance (sorry for those of you who thought that would be obvious), and you will be able to sit up (crouched), or leaning on your elbows. It's important to note that I'm 5'8, and I had more than enough room. Also, when packing up, because of it's size it's easy to clean off to be packed up quickly. Lastly, some sleeping bags/tents come with bags that once you take the tent out, you can't fit it back in - this tent/poles roll up and fit with ease back into the carrying bag. Personally, I think the value of this purchase was spot on for me. For the price, it is of great quality, durability, and is easy to travel with. Enjoy! UPDATE DEC 2014: The foot-end pole snapped - booo :( I'm going to look into getting it replaced because I'm still very pleased with the tent. I took it camping a minimum of 3-5 nights per month May-Oct this year, and it only snapped in October after 2 years use.. LOTS of use.

Great lightweight solo starter tent!
UPDATED: I thru-hiked the 2,655 mile Pacific Crest Trail with this tent from Mexico to Canada in 2012 & it lasted the whole trek. I am still using it right now even after! Along the way I had experienced a lot of different types of weather scenarios. It made it through the scolding deserts shielding me from the sun, through the Sierras shielding me very well from the mass hordes of mosquitos & rain, and through the cascades keeping me warmer than I would have been in a tarp when it was cold. It's a nice beginner lightweight option, though not really ultra-light, but proved to be worth the low price paid. On my postal scale it weighed in at exactly 3lbs with stakes, & poles in the stuff sack it came with. Pretty good especially if the rest of your gear is light too. It's kind of strange, because at first I hated this product. Why? It would become so wet from condensation each morning, I'd awake to a pool around me...but it began to grow on me after seeing so many -more severe- problems from other PCT hikers who did not have this tent. The condensation issue seems to only be a -major- problem when it's sealed up with the rainflap on. Otherwise, only randomly would it be a problem, mostly in more humid weather. Depending on how achy/lazy I am feeling, this tent takes me an average of about 2 minutes or less to set up even in the dark, it's just so easy to do; stake it down, 1st pole in, 2nd pole in, your done. The poles are pretty strong and there are only 2 of them (see bottom about 1 issue I had though), and I've never once needed more than 4 stakes to hold everything down even with brutal wind, & pouring rain. I have not had one leak yet, not even a drop get through this tent....through the worst of STORMS! I was shocked it was so rain protective, and very thankful about it. One morning I woke up and everyone was soaking wet from a bad T-Storm, another hikers $500 tent collapsed, and everyone who brought a tarp for weight was regretting it in that moment. My tent was just how it looked the previous night, like nothing had ever happened. (Again, I only had 4 stakes in too). Raincover stayed put even with insanely crazy wind blowing in all directions. + if you don't care about privacy when you sleep and you keep the rainflap unzipped it is as if you are sleeping under the stars. Bugs never got inside unless I accidently left it unzipped. I had even slept on an anthill once, and they were not getting in. So far, other than condensation I have not been able to think of another con, well, except that you cannot sit up inside this thing easy. It's more like a bivy than a tent. I am a 5'2 female(pretty short), fit and I am definitely a hunchback inside when I need to change clothes or do anything that involves sitting up. The only other issue is when you do need to sit up, and if you have messy/thick hair like I do, your hair will most likely get ripped out from the double zipper above you which can get extremely irritating! This happens to me nearly every single night in the tent and it's pretty unavoidable. Also, I don't find the colors of yellowish-orange & black on the tent to be very appealing in the middle of nature, but have not seen this tent made in other colors. Other than these small issues, so far, it's a great tent. ______________________________________________ UPDATE 2 (1 issue I had) : One night while resting at Kennedy Meadows the back tent pole snapped while setting up and could not be fixed because my hiking partner messed it all up "trying to fix it", but Eureka replaced it for free over the phone & I never had a repeat issue. They were very nice about it and actually sent me a spare for the front just in case as well, no charge. I think the woman on the phone said they usually charge a small fee to replace them though. Also I should add that I was not the one setting up my tent the night the pole snapped! So I learned my lesson about letting others set up my tent! I think the hiker setting it up for me out of kindness was trying to force it in when I wasn't looking out of laziness, or just didn't know any better since he was a tarp guy and doesn't use tent poles ever, but that's a whole other book chapter....I never had a problem with the tent poles otherwise. All in all everything worked out great with this tent and I will be using it on future adventures.

Great little tent.
This a great little backpacking/lightweight bivy tent that won't break the bank. I have used this several times now on backpacking and motorcycle camping trips and it gets the job done. It is a small, bivy style tent so there isn't much room to just hang out in there. However, it keeps the rain and bugs out and the heat in which is all that matters. I have used this is freezing temps, heavy rain, and nice summer days. No issues at all. Be careful with it! It is an inexpensive, lightweight unit. If you treat it roughly it will break. Simple as that. I have been careful with mine and have had zero issues. Again, this is a bivy style tent, but it has more room than most bivys. I am 6'6" and I fit comfortably in there with my pack. That wouldn't be possible in most bivys. Finally, for what you get it is very lightweight and affordable. For this weight in a regular shape 1 person tent you'd have to spend over $250. I'll sacrifice the headroom for that much money. Also, this packs much smaller than any of those larger tents despite their light weight. Good little tent. I'm glad I bought it.

A sad product
I had had great success with Eureka! tent products through the years. I was thus optimistic about this one, which promised to be a light, easy-to-use, single person tent. In looking back, I should have paid more attention to the existing reviews on amazon. Particularly, I should have noted the review stating that, no matter how hard one tried, the main pole system would fail upon first use. To practice setting up my tent, I used an indoors room that was well-lighted. With extreme care, I assembled the pole system and slipped it into its grommets. Snap! I was off the next day for 8 nights of camping. As had been suggested in the earlier review, I packed a role of electrical tape to keep the poles together. Thanks only to dry weather, the tent succeeded in giving me some shelter during that time. The printed instructions never gave a clue as to how the cords or the extra (yellow) stake were to be used. The result was an ugly looking, misshapen structure that received many comments. After Night #8, my tent was placed without remorse into a nearby trash bin. I really don't know how this tent ever got to market or why Eureka! placed its name and reputation on it. I'm deeply disappointed, and I'll think twice (thrice) about ever using a Eureka! product again.

lightweight bivy type shelter
I have owned this tent for exactly a year and have used it for about 8 trips that usually lasted on average about three nights. I have used it in the Olympic National Park in Washington state, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and around the treeline in Colorado. I enjoyed this tent. The tent was long enough and wide enough for me. I am a 5'5 female weighing 160 lbs. I had ample room for myself and my gear. When it rained, the tent was waterproof. When packed, it wasn't tiny, but it was lightweight. Putting the tent together was easy. I did find some things about the tent annoying. Probably the biggest annoyance is that you cannot sit up in the tent. You have to either be in a laying down position or on you hands and knees. You can sit in the vestibule and and take your shoes off, but everything becomes super messy when it rains. The second biggest annoyance was that there wasn't enough air flow to prevent condensation. I recently bought a down sleeping bag and I hate getting it wet. Also, when it rains, the raindrops will hit the top of the tent and then the condensation will hit you. On the last trip, the netting got caught on something and started to get "runs" like pantyhose. Also, the back pole broke. I think it may be time for a new tent, and I will try something different this time. I have a tip regarding how to stake this tent. In order to get a smooth look for the rainfly, you must stake the front part of the rainfly further out from the front floor of the tent. To get the tent to stand, you need only four stakes. To prevent ripples in the rainfly, you need one extra stake in the front, so that would be five stakes. To stake out the sides of the rainfly to help prevent condensation, you need an extra four stakes, making nine total. Anyway, I enjoyed this tent, but I think I am onto the next one!

Great Tent!
My old 1 man tent ripped during a gear check prior to a 4 night excursion to Yosemite's Hetch Hetchy. I ordered this tent despite the reviews of the poles. I could bend the poles almost into a circle without any cracking or creaking. The tent set up fast and I found that only the tent stakes directly attached to the tent were required. I did not use the cords that pull the ends tight and had no issues. The mesh top was awesome and allowed me to see the gorgeous stars like no other tent I've had. It withstood heavy winds and thunderstorm downpours. I was able to test the waterproof rainfly on site with 2 days of non-stop rain. It held up well and I particularly liked the raised rubberized bottom/sides. The only downside is no footprint is available and my footprint was too large. Overall, this tent was great and endured a full range of weather situations. Bring a poncho if you expect rain, waiting out a rain storm in this little guy would not be ideal.

Like I said
I hiked 700 miles of the AT with this tent and became very attached to it. I'm a 5'5" 125 lb female and this became my personal space away from the world where I could change clothes, read (hang my head lamp from the small loop right above my head), and just chill away from bugs and rain. It's quick to put up, quick to breakdown, you get ventalation with the option to keep your rain fly back but if you wake up to water dripping on your head you can get the fly down in less than a minute, it's lightweight, and large enough for two people in case of emergency (I emphasize "emergency;" this is not and should not be bought as a two man tent). Avid outdoorsmen become weirdly attached to their gear, and this tent will continue to be mended and maintained as long as is practical. When I headed back to New Mexico from the trail, I had both poles snap in Ohio. One quick call to the CS team and I've got new poles on their way for my trip next weekend. Like I said, we all develope relationships with our gear in a weird, slightly OCD way, and just like with real life emotions you don't get to nessesarily choose who you fall for. This inexpensive tent has become my trusted protector and preference over more expensive models. I highly, highly recommend.
