Lionel FasTrack Graduated Trestle Set, O Gauge Large

After trying and failing to get the proper graduated elevation using my own blocks and wedges, I gave in and bought the Lionel Fast Track Graduated Trestle Set. It worked first time. I didn't use all of the set because my layout is not big enough. It works on straight and curved track. One trick I discovered is to slightly bend the metal tabs that hold the track to the trestle. It helps to hold the track a little better. And look at the ends of the metal strips that space the trestles out because they are not the same and it maters how you link them together on curved track.

Best to get up and above. Also works with curved rails. But it's originally designed for straight tracks. For that its extremely long. Maybe it would be a good invention to design curved underrails, too.

I love the way it looks but only used 1/2 of the trestles and I have 2 separate kits outer loop and the inside decoupler along with xtra trestle, gated road, and 8 extra straights. This creature is now a little over 8 1/2 feet long by just over 5 feet wide. Can’t have any switches in the air. Good luck using all!

I bought this for my son. He has the O-guage Polar Express set. I had read another readers review that this set was 230 in. from start to finish. That's no joke. It's massive. I have to go out and buy more track to accommodate this set. The Polar Express set was only able to handle the 6 braces up and 6 down. If you have the Polar Express set, Just know that you should invest in more track. I recommend buying the 30" bulk fast track. While this trestle works on a curve, it appears to do better on straight track. Also, if the trestle is on a curved part of track and you're trailing cars, be sure to watch your speed. It's all too easy to derail. Great product though. Very sturdy and secure. Adult help may be required while assembling the trestle. The plastic pins you have to insert into the braces can be quite a chore.

This product must have had some improvements made to it since earlier reviews were written. There are no plastic pins anymore. The pieces for each trestle screw together easily with a single, phillips-head screw. The trestles went together quickly and and are very secure. I used them on my Fast Track and they worked flawlessly. For numerous years, I have played around with DYI attempts to get the perfect grade (always ran into problems getting a smooth enough transition where the grade starts and ends) and Lionel's trestles do the trick. I followed one users recommendation to use off-brand trestles available at Jim's Train House, and while they appeared to be very secure, they were not wide enough for the Fast Track. Use the Lionel- They do the trick.
