Langenscheidt Standard Dictionary German (German and English Edition)

Great value for money and content. While not the most comprehensive it is an invaluable reference for someone getting their German back up to par. I own a dated Cassels dictionary. Very dated. And this also works as a perfect supplement

There are a lot of online resources today... many question the need of an actual dictionary these days. However, There have been several instances where my high school student used my reference book because the online resources were not cutting it. Online resources are not always reliable and accurate. This is a perfect on-hand reference for Beginning high school German students... all the way to German 4+ in college. It comes in handy for translation assignments and many other different types of projects. It's quick and useful for your general word lookups. I recommend having one of these on hand... they are not super expensive and are well worth the investment.

Great dictionary: the size is small enough to fit into a bag but it’s not so tiny that it’s difficult to read. The vocabulary is comprehensive. The binding is also made of flexible plastic so that it doesn’t crease or tear when opening. Overall, a must-buy for students of German.

Pretty good

This is a beautifully printed dictionary with lots of useful features, such as colloquial and idiomatic expressions, and definitions pertaining to different professions or to different German-speaking countries. Its organization is not the best, however. Entries are not strictly in line. Many entries are set off under a main word in a kind of paragraph, making them hard to find. For example, the definitions of “worauf”, “woraus”, and “worin” are buried within the definition of “woran” and not given as separate entries. If the buried entries are hyphenated, finding them is even harder. The useful information in each definition consists mainly of cryptic abbreviations that one must constantly look up in a several-page key at the beginning of the book. Obviously, these disadvantages are required in order to put a huge amount of information in a limited space, and for that it succeeds.

This is the most clear and expansive dictionary I've found on German. It really helps with vocabulary.

I just got it and it looks pretty good. While it is bigger than pocket size, its not bad for a paperback dictionary. Actually I think the cover is plastic. Another review mentioned the binding. It looks fine to me... probably not worth the extra money for the flexibind upgrade.

Has it all-but can be a little bewildering with so much information. Not for light walks as it's pretty big to carry.

Estou muito contente com os serviços da Amazon, pois apesar do prazo estimado para a entrega do produto ser de 1 a 2 meses, eu comprei este dicionário em 21/12/2019 e recebi em 07/01/2020, ou seja antes do prazo estimado para um produto Importado. O dicionário tem um ótimo acabamento e foi impresso na Alemanha. Gostei tambem do tamanho do dicionário de aproximadamente 18 cm de altura, nao e pesado e pode ser carregado numa mochila.

This is the second one I have purchased. The other one I have had for years and I use it so often it needed replacing. I like it because it gives examples as to how to use the words in German. I recommend it to anybody who wants to use the proper word in the proper way.

Es un gran diccionario alemán-Inglés, con 130.000 palabras, ideal para estudiantes de esos dos idiomas. Mi sobrino lo ha pedido para el zap, una especie de reválida en alemán y le ha encantado

This book has almost all the words I know in english plus countless I don't in german. It even cross references the german ones with the english ones so that If I know a word in English but not in German I can find out what the German word is by looking up the English one I already know. I would have put five stars if not for the book not containing the German word for "squish". I may never know.
