I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The sound is better than more expensive ones I own. The shortwave is a bonus. It has so many great features, especially in case of loss of power. I highly recommend it.

I was browsing on Amazon forever to find a nifty little radio I don't know anything about long wave or short wave but this radio is packed with tons of features The best one being a line in and you can use it as a wired speaker for your phone and the speaker the radio comes with is high quality which surprised me because I always buy radios like this at Fred Meyer or Walmart

First let me say that I am no expert with emergency radio features. This is my first radio with cranks and solar panels, and the first portable in many years. I bought the radio to have a battery operated portable. I decided to include emergency features to have and to learn. Further, I have no other similar radio to compare tuning, reception, charging etc performance, so my value in this review is limited. I will give you what I have experienced so far after about a month with it. It receives am, fm and wb in Springfield MO acceptably well (remember - nothing else to compare to). I have not tried long or short wave yet (forgot all about it until now). I have had the alarm feature turn the radio on in the night during a weather alert (I was expecting heavy thunderstorms) so that worked. A swiveling antenna instead of fixed up/down would've been nice, and an external connector would've been nice for use in the house in power failures. The crank does work but I have no idea how well it will charge things. I cranked with the radio playing and could tell nothing. After letting the radio run down on the internal battery so that reception had gone almost out, I could crank and get normal reception while cranking, and then it would go back to bad almost as soon as I stopped. At least it would give me the ability to hear emergency information if necessary, I would just have to keep cranking if the batteries were dead. The solar also works. In bright sunlight it will play the radio with the internal battery dead. Turn the radio off and it will charge the internal battery although I have not done careful timing on any of the charging/discharging cycle times because both take hours and I am not that diligent and patient. I have also charged the radio from total discharge from a pc/usb connection. I tried charging my cell phone from the radio but my phone was beeping and herking/jerking, and given the radios manual said some phones are incompatible, I concluded my old flip phone was one of those and gave that up before I damaged one or the other or both. The black model I have has a textured finish (I ordered black and got black textured so they probably all are), like a non-slip tool. It is good for non-slip, but also will make the radio harder to keep clean looking from dirt and grease smudges etc. The manual is a bit hard to understand. It is pretty obvious that the manf wrote the manual in Chinese, then had someone translate to English word for word, which does not account for the different ways they say things. You have to interpret. I found no glaring errors. The programming and tuning features, buttons, lights, alarms, etc all did as advertised. A lot packaged in something that size, but it would be nice to have some comparable units to try. I do not. I'd like to add that it would've been very nice to have had the SAME weather alert feature in addition to the NOAA alert feature. To test the alert feature, I set the radio next to my bed with the alert feature turned on, expecting possibly heavy storms in the area. Sure enough, about 2am it came on and woke me up. It was a thunderstorm warning not even close to my area, and going away. With SAME I could program it to just alert on tornado warnings, and in my county, which would greatly cut down on getting startled wake ups unnecessarily. Maybe a future addition to the model?

I purchased this product as part of their return/secondhand item program. Although it was classified as being “acceptable” used quality (aside from the damaged box it arrived in) The item was practically brand new. I was a bit surprised at the size of the product, just because I’m used to more of the smaller hand crank radios that are typically more travel-friendly and accessible. The price point is a bit on the higher end, but as I start to familiarize myself with it, and read through the user manual, I can definitely see why. It includes a multitude of additional functions that I do believe that the other smaller Emergency radios do not have. Some functions that I find that would be particularly handy in an emergency situation are: - AM/FM/SW/LW Radio Reception - NOAA Weather Alert - Built-in Solar Panel - Hand Crank Dynamo - LED Flashlight - Reading Lamp - USB Charging Port - Aux Input & Headphone Jack - Digital Tuning & Display - EGC Despite the larger size, I would encourage others to purchase this product in case of emergencies.

This little radio seems to work pretty well, it has handy features like a reading light and flashlight, a hand crank and solar panels, so no matter what, you should be able to power it in an emergency. That is what I am looking for, and it works fine. My criticisms consist mainly in that the body seems fragile, constructed of light weight plastic and the battery lid comes off sometimes just from handling the unit. It could be secured better. Also, the power button only turns off the radio function; the clock and led indicators still function in off mode. There is no way to turn them off except to disconnect the solar battery, so the battery will most likely be drained starting out of the gate when you need to break it out for an emergency if its been sitting for a time. Of course, you can disconnect the battery, or leave it connected and then crank it or charge it with solar panel once a storm comes up, but it would be nice to have a fresh charge in the thing if it needs to be used unexpectedly. I haven't actually tested this hypothesis, but the led has got to be draining power from the solar battery slowly over time while its stored, so it will probably be dead eventually if you leave the battery connected. Considering that, the non-digital version might be better. Other than that, I think it will be a handy little device to have in a storm. The instructions could be a little clearer in some instances, though.

I got this unit for several reasons: emergency use, of course; camping trips; and plays. Yes, plays. Our favorite theater has ceased having performances indoors, but, instead, they leased an old drive-in theater where they have the play on a stage down front and also project it on the big screen. The old sound boxes are gone, of course, but the theater broadcasts the sound over a local radio frequency. So, my wife and I set up our lawn chairs in front of our car; tuned in the Kaito Voyager Pro KA600; used a Y-jack to plug both our headphones into the headphone jack on the unit; tuned in and pulled out the snacks; and we were good to go. Worked out perfectly. Sound was really good and the built-in light came in handy. So far, we are very satisfied. I noticed that, by using the crank, I can pretty much avoid using batteries at all. Would recommend this unit.

Perfect for emergencies. Flashlight, AM/FM radio, USB charging ports, uses rechargeable batteries that can be powered by the sun, by cranking by hand, or 3 AA Batteries. Has a solar panel charger, red lens for night vision, flashlight, etc. Has come in handy already (within 6 months), during several power outages we've experienced due to rain/snow. Last one was 5 hours, and we were all set. Listened to music on the radio, and played cards by the surface light!

My Dad purchased this all the way from Australia and we had some minor issues getting AM to work but after emailing support they gave us instructions on how to do this. Shortly after we noticed solar charging doesn't work at all - emailed support twice but no reply. Expensive radio and it's great but the reason Dad purchased so he could charge it with solar when he was camping and no power available but unfortunately it doesn't work. Not recommended at all.

Nice little unit, decent enough reception when out of town. Charges quickly on the solar. Haven't really tried the lights, but, they do work. I have only used the USB and solar for power. Haven't added any extra batteries. Lots of features, most of which I haven't investigated yet.

It is working OK, but cheap plastic and construction. The Input/Output Functions Dock rubber flap protector does not stay in place. To top it off, the built-in rechargeable Ni-MH battery does not hold its charge even after having been fully charged (indicator appearing as solid) with the Kaito included power adaptor; the moment you turn the radio on the battery capacity falls down to Medium strength. I would not buy again, definitely not at the regular price (222.00 Canadian $)!!! I am disappointed.
