The acclaimed chef featured in the Emmy-Award winning US PBS series The Mind of a Chef and the Netflix docuseries Chef's Table explores the rich baking tradition of the Nordic region, with 450 tempting recipes for home bakers Nordic culture is renowned for its love of baking and baked goods: hot coffee is paired with cinnamon buns spiced with cardamom, and cold winter nights are made cozier with the warmth of the oven. In The Nordic Baking Book , Nilsson delves into all aspects of Nordic home baking - modern and traditional, sweet and savory - with recipes for everything from breads and pastries to cakes, cookies, and holiday treats. No other book on Nordic baking is as comprehensive and informative. Nilsson travelled extensively throughout the Nordic region - Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden - collecting recipes and documenting the landscape. The 100 photographs in the book have been shot by Nilsson – now an established photographer, following his successful exhibitions in the US. Enticing recipes including some soups (!) from my childhood
I love perusing this book and have really enjoyed cooking from it. I was happily surprised to find a soup section in a baking book. The soups include several that were regular features at my Icelandic grandmother's table.

Magnus Nilsson is my favorite food writer!
I debated for a long while on whether I should buy the Nordic cookbook by Magnus. I never got around to it but jumped at the baking book because I love sweet yeasted breads. Aside from the huge collection of whimsical, comforting, original and delicious Nordic treats, I found out that I am a big fangirl of Magnus Nilsson's foodwriting. I love his adorably honest and utterly unpretentious way of presenting important information, and his little random rants and blunt opinions somehow don't come off as proud or egotistical at all, but rather endearing. I have well over a hundred cookbooks, many by the world's best chefs, and though I adore some chefs' food genius I can't read their writing because it's so haughty sounding. Magnus is truly in love with the food and his writing so shamelessly and simply glows with that love. I can't wait to bake from this book but first I'm just going to read it like a novel! And now I can't wait to get his Nordic Cookbook!

Fun to read, great cultural info, but not all recipes are reliable
I’ve had this book for a few years but didn’t really start baking with it until last year. So many fun options, and I love that it has recipes from all the Nordic european countries. Yes, it would be nice to have more photos, but of course it would’ve become more than one volume if each recipe gets its own page and photo. Recently I made two things that both didn’t have the most reliable directions: one a norwegian Christmas cake, which needed at least ten minutes more baking time and also could’ve benefitted from double as much of the topping; and the other the Icelandic Christmas cake which was still fluid inside at the end of the provided baking time. I was pretty sure that would happen, given the size of the bread, but alas, giving it more time turned into a Problem later: it was too dry and also much too crumbly, falling apart under the knife. I bake a lot and was surprised to have messed up that badly, but I double checked the recipe and had followed it to the letter. I will definitely try more recipes though — hope this doesn’t happen again!

Great gift!
This book is very high quality in terms of the physical book itself and its contents. The cover and pages are heavy and the photos are stunning. The recipes and stories from the chef are great. I can't attest to any of the recipes yet but they didn't seem to require too many ingredients that you wouldn't have on hand already or would be difficult to substitute if need be. I gift it to my dad and he was thrilled.

Instant Favorite
I picked it up because I was curious about how to make some Scandinavian baked goods and ended up using at least once or twice a week. The cinnamon rolls recipe is incredible and my family asks for it all the time now.

Bake from beautiful Norwegian recipes!
Being half Norwegian myself my late Mother spoke her native language to our Father me & my siblings & whilst family in Norway would say I am fluent in Norwegian- sadly I am not... yet! Being unable to translate fully the recipes from my late Mother's beautiful cookery books, this one gave me the recipes in English of many baking treats I remember her making for & with me not only as a child but also as an adult. It is full of nostalgia for me. To all non-Norwegians everywhere, I could highly recommend this wonderfully complied & beautifully bound hardback book to anyone who simply enjoys baking as the many varied Norwegian recipes are clearly written & easy to follow. I wish a 'God Jul' & many hours of happy baking to all who buy this exceptional Norwegian baking book. A wonderful buy; thank you for sending it.

Genial

History, culture, heritage, reason, knowledge and sharing
I Leared to bake old and forgotten recipes that I now can teach my children to make. Some recipes takes time and some prior knowledge about baking is good to have. But many recipes has been made by my family members who are not bakers or have much skills in the kitchen in any given day.

Consigliato
