## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have a 1/32" hairline crack on a bass drum wood hoop- is Titebond thin enough in composition that it can "seep" into a small crack to bond?**
A: I had a Fender '72 Thinline develop an open joint on the backside lower bout; Dave Molinari, a musician and an expert Automotive and Marine upholsterer friend look it over. What we decided to do was to snake a silicone tube through the 'F Hole' to the area a few inches above the area where the joint had failed. We squirted a bunch of Titebond regular down the tubing, while holding the guitar in a position where the open joint was the low point of the guitar, and rotated the guitar to get the glue to 'follow the curve through its 12" length. We couldn't actually see inside the guitar as we tried to repair the joint; we just tried to slide the tube into the open joint area, held the guitar so that the open joint was the low point, and trusted the glue to flow into place. When we'd done all we could, we set the guitar down in such a way as to have the open joint ALWAYS at the low spot and trust the Titebond to flow into the open space.. We let the guitar sit overnight. For some reason, the finish had also separated from the wood; The finish didn't crack, just moved about 3/16" away from the wood. We figured we'd give the glue enough time to flow all it would, cure properly, and visit the issue of the separated finish later. I put the guitar in its case and let it sit for a month or so. When I next opened the case to inspect the guitar, I got a nice surprise: Not only had letting the Titebond have the time it needed to fill the the crack, but the finish somehow reattached itself to the wood. The only evidence that a problem ever existed is a faint hairline. I've also used Titebond to repair loose knife handles. The Titebond can actually fill in and harden sufficiently to replace missing chunks of wood. They also offer a waterproof version, suitable for repairing outdoor wood.

**Q: will it gice a strong bond to unpainted wood to unpainted drywall?**
A: Drywall surface is only paper. The bond will be strong but only until the paper fails. You could glue a light load to it and it will hold well.

**Q: Is this safe to use on a cat scratching post?**
A: Alphatic resin glues are non toxic,,, dont let the cat bathe in it or mix it with their food,, should be all good

**Q: I am looking for a cowhide replacement in the matter that it should soften with heat, will this glue soften with heat? If not, which synthetic glue ca**
A: My friend, Steve Grasso operated his own Leather Shop, Wholly Cow Leatherworks.for decades. He used Barge All Purpose Cement, which is a Contact Cement; you thin it with Lacquer Thinner. The suppleness is in the leather; I don't think Titebond will soften, once it has hardened. Titebond says that once it has cured in a wood joint, the wood will fail, before the glue will.
