I show a photo of the Velcro strap inside that can be pulled in to create a smaller space inside the hat for your head. With this adjusted properly it stays on very well. I don't think it will pull tight enough for a child's head but for any adult this will work great. I haven't worn it in the weather but I bet it will repel rain and the brim is wide enough to keep water from dripping down your back. It has holes around the top to let air move through.
