Review: A Large, Lightweight, Everyday Griddle That’s Become My Go-To For Bigger Breakfasts - Smooth Flipping, Quick Heating, Star Handle, and Easy Cleanup But Check Storage Requirements I keep my cookware for decades. Most of what I use day to day is heritage cast iron and copper because they last forever and feel familiar. But I’ve been testing newer pieces for everyday cooking because they’re lighter, easier to clean, and All-Clad makes excellent cookware. I recently got an All-Clad skillet that I really like, so I wanted to try out this griddle. I’ve been using this square HA1 Expert griddle for several weeks now, mostly for breakfast foods. Eggs, pancakes, grilled cheese when family was visiting. This is the largest griddle I own, and that alone makes it useful. Here’s how this is performing in real, everyday use. ➡️ BUILD QUALITY AND DESIGN ⭐ THE HANDLE IS EXCEPTIONALLY WELL DESIGNED. This is the first thing I noticed. The handle is thicker in all the right places, feels secure in my hand, and gives me enough clearance that my fingers never get close to the hot surface. That’s hard to achieve with low walled griddles. The slight elevation makes this much easier to maneuver than my cast iron griddles, which have handles that sit too close to the cooking surface to be helpful. ⭐ THE LOW WALLS MAKE FLIPPING EASY. This is a real benefit. I can slide a spatula under pancakes, eggs, or grilled cheese without fighting the sides of the pan. Even the pancakes toward the back are easy to flip. The low walls also make the cooking surface feel more generous than the dimensions suggest. ⭐ LIGHTWEIGHT BUT SOLID. This is much lighter than my cast iron pieces, but it still feels sturdy and trustworthy. Nothing about this feels flimsy or thin. This sits flat, feels engineered, and has the stability I expect from All-Clad. ⚠️ THE HANDLE IS LONG, AND STORAGE TAKES PLANNING. This was the only design surprise. The handle adds a lot to the overall length. I store this in my range oven because I have wall ovens for actual cooking, but if you have limited cabinet space, it’s worth checking the fit. ➡️ PERFORMANCE ⭐ FOOD RELEASES BEAUTIFULLY. Eggs, pancakes, grilled cheese, everything slides. Nothing sticks. The nonstick coating feels durable and predictable. ⭐ HEATS FAST AND RESPONDS QUICKLY. This is a big advantage over cast iron. If I turn the heat up or down, this responds right away. For breakfast foods that cook quickly, this is exactly what I want. ⚠️ THERE ARE HOT SPOTS. This doesn’t heat as evenly as my cast iron griddles. The center runs hotter. For me, this is a tradeoff for the lightweight build and the very slick nonstick surface. It hasn’t affected my cooking much because everything I make on this griddle cooks fast. And for grilled cheese, it’s easy to rotate the sandwich so the bread gets evenly toasted. ⭐ STABLE AND PREDICTABLE ON THE COOKTOP. This sits completely flat on my gas burners and stays stable when I press on this with a spatula. Once I learned where the hotter zone is, this became very predictable. ➡️ CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE ⭐ CLEANS UP IN SECONDS. I wipe this between batches with a paper towel held in tongs, and everything comes right off. After cooking, dish soap and water are all this needs. No scrubbing. ⭐ THE DARK EXTERIOR HIDES OIL MARKS. If there are any stains, I don’t see them. The dark exterior keeps this looking clean. ⭐ LOW WALLS MAKE CLEANING EASY. It’s simple to reach every part of the cooking surface. The tradeoff is that splatter can reach the cooktop more easily, but that’s expected with any griddle. ⚠️ I WOULDN’T USE THE DISHWASHER. This is large, the handle is long, and I prefer to hand wash nonstick anyway. Cleanup is so fast that the dishwasher isn’t necessary. ➡️ MY BOTTOM LINE This is the best large format griddle I’ve used, and it’s super handy whenever I’m cooking for more than three people. This heats fast, cleans up instantly, and has a handle that finally solves the low walled griddle problem I’ve had with my cast iron pieces. When I have family over from time to time, this is a great piece to keep on hand. It’s lightweight, reliable, and easy to maneuver. For pancakes, eggs, grilled cheese, and anything that benefits from a wide, open surface, this griddle performs really well. Great value for money. Review: High quality griddle pan, issues with induction - I ordered this because I've heard great things about All-Clad but have never owned any of their pots and pans. My wife loves to cook and she was impressed with this griddle pan right off the bat. She hasn't used it extensively, but she did heat up tortillas with it when making homemade flautas and it worked perfectly for that. It has a nice thickness and holds heat evenly, similar to how a cast iron pan might. She said the handle is excellent and attached very securely, and it seems to be extremely well made, which I expected based on everything I've heard about All-Clad. My wife thinks this will also be great for making smash burgers, pancakes, and the like. It's not something we really NEEDED to add to our collection, but she's very happy now that we have it. The size was more than big enough for heating one 8 inch tortilla at a time. The non-stick coating makes it super easy to clean, as well, not that the tortillas made much of a mess, but my wife is pretty confident it's not going to be an issue with messier meals, either. At about $80 I think it's a great value considering the quality -- I had my wife guess the price and she said $60-$80, and probably $80 for the brand name. The one downside is my wife cannot get it to use with our induction burner, which we use very frequently, despite the fact that the HA1 is supposed to be induction compatible. Maybe we need to play around with it some more, but be aware there may be some sort of compatibility issue there because our induction burner turns off as though it thinks there's nothing on it when we try to use this pan with it.

Great for over easy eggs
I love All-Clad cookware because they make high quality products. I was intrigued when I saw this unusual pan. It's unlike any other pan I have ever used. My husband loves to cook a big breakfast on the weekends. We use tri-ply stainless steel cookware and do not currently own any nonstick pans. I decided to order this pan to see if he would enjoy using it for over easy eggs. I frequently make grilled sandwiches, so I had an alternate use in plan if it didn't work out well for the eggs. He used it for the first time this weekend for over easy eggs and it was a huge success! He normally has to cook the eggs one at a time in a small pan, but was able to cook all three at one time on this pan. The surface area is generous, allowing an egg in each corner if needed. The non-stick surface worked well with the eggs and was so easy to clean afterwards. The pan is nice and flat with no warping, though it has only been used on the gas cooktop so far. We have not attempted using it in the oven at 500 degrees, as it says it is capable of handling. All Clad pans are pricey because they are high quality. I was honestly surprised that this pan was being offered at only $79.99. It is a good value for this pan.
