Invaluable
If you are going to go on the Feingold diet, I would absolutely recommend this book. There are so many foods you avoid to make this diet work - this book has recipes that will help you get started. After you have gotten comfortable with what's okay and what's not, then you can branch out and use other recipe books or find recipes in other places that will work, but this book helps in those first difficult weeks on Feingold. And ultimately, if salicylates is a problem for you or your child, then having a resource full of things that you CAN eat is invaluable.

This works
I used this system over 35 years ago on my daughter that had uncontrollable temper tantrums. In about a week that behavior stopped. We kept both of our kids on the Feng old diet until they were 5 or 6... then it wasn't needed for them.Back then of course, we only had a list of things to eliminate, slowly adding things back in. Sugar wasn't ever the issue with my kids, but food color was.Now this is being used by those same daughters for their kids due to food allergies. So having recipes is nice.

Great Book
I purchased this book back in the mid 1980's for my then young son to help with his ADD. My book has been used so much that I had to buy a replacement book for use with my young granddaughter who has ADD. Information is good and some of the recipes are delicious. This book and the book "Driven to Distraction" are a must for any person who has a young or any age individual with ADD or ADHD.

Feingold Diet Cookbook
This book is out of print, however if you have a child who is hyper or you have an ADD problem, you should consider The Feingold Diet/Cookbook. The theory is that artificial colors and flavors cause an allergic reaction resulting in behaviour such as lack of sustained attention/coffee nerves/easily distracted but a diet of natural ingredients allows your body to function evenly. No meds! Try it.

very unhealthy cooking
This cookbook is from the 1970's - Before we knew that saturated fat and trans fats were not good for you! I would not buy this book and have already returned the copy I purchased. There are a lot of other update to date recipes available that still follow the Feingold diet but are also healthy!

A load of rubbish, in my opinion
I have ADHD and this diet is extremely complex and nonsensical in my opinion. First of all it says to eliminate all things that are high in Salicyates or have moderate Salicyate contents, which is a lot of things. And then some of the things it permits are actually higher in Salicyates then another food which they said you should avoid! The research is scientifically unsubstantiated, in fact many people think that ADHD doesn't even exist. Of course these symptoms exist where we really cannot concentrate along with other things, but this might be due to a deeper abnormality in the gut which is why ADHD often crosses with other disorders. I know this is an old book, however if you have ADHD and you were doing some research like myself and came across the 'Feingold Diet' thinking it would help, I hope you listen to my advice and avoid doing so because it will just be a waste of your time.

The Feingold Cookbook for Hyperactive Children
Great book for those parents whose children are diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, etc. It's based on the theory that, for some, these "conditions" can find their roots in the additives in the foods we feed our children. The recipes are delicious even if your child has not been diagnosed with these "conditions"!
