Used it this past week at Pyramid Lake in Nevada ...
Used it this past week at Pyramid Lake in Nevada and was very please with the rod for Nymphing with an indicator or stripping. Caught Lahaton cuts up to 5#s. Proper fly line us important.

Needs a good line. But awesome winter rod!
I originally had this rod on a Rio Switch Chicker #7 and I hated the rod. I then switched to a OPST Commando 350g (25g over recommendation) and I LOVE this rod. It’s a winter steelhead laser, with scientific anglers flat mono running line.Very stiff butt section = fast action rod = can handle a fish larger than you think. OPST allows me to huck large winter weighted flies on a T8 tip with ease.Not the lightest rod but it’s also only $300, star knocked for weight. Reddington has a rod $100 more that’s 1.4oz less...I’m hoping that weight extra is in the durability of the blank and not something stupid like the cork 🙃EDIT: has handled a 10.5lb and 20lb hen w/o issue. Would say it’s good for 25-30lbs, definitely handles more close to an 8 weight than other 7s I’ve used.
