Unfortunately for Kei, the manhunt is on and he will soon be caught within a conflict between mankind and others like him as they prepare to fight a new war based on terror. Review: Wondeful new horror manga - This review will not include any spoilers. Being relatively new to manga I had to take a few shots in the dark to figure out what series I would follow. This is one of the series that I'm so happy I purchased! All avoid describing what the story is since you can read the description easily enough. Instead I'll tell you what my Impressions were of the overall story. Early on this manga reached out and grabbed my attention and managed to hold it throughout the entire first volume. There is a very clear story laid out straight from the get go, and things move fast. I hope you're not looking for a relaxing story because this one definitely moves fast and keeps you on your toes. I thought the story was very clearly explained while still leaving some things to future volumes. One thing that did bother me was how cold and heartless they portrayed most people in the manga. I suppose people can be that way it just felt a little over-the-top sometimes. The art itself is very well rendered, making good use of black and white to leave the pages at just the right shade. Sometimes mangas can get a little too dark and it makes it hard to follow what's happening in each panel. I never had that issue with Ajin, and I could always clearly tell what was going on even during some intense action sequences! There were some awesome action panels so but I hope you don't mind stylized violence because there is a lot of it. Overall I gave this manga 5 stars. I found the story fresh and exciting and it was backed up with clear and direct art. Warning: I wouldn't recommend this for anyone under the age of 15 or 16. While not being exactly gory it is very violent and there are some extended torture scenes. Review: great world building in a dark, promising series - Sometimes I think 'do I REALLY need to get sucked into another series?'. And then I find (or have people wave it in front of my face) a series like Ajin, which has a premise that sucks me in - people who are 'demi-human' in that no matter what you do to them, no matter how much damage their body takes, they don't die. Then it shows how the world reacts to these people. Kei Nagai discovers that he is one of these beings (if I have any issue with the story in the first novel, it's the set up of how this goes about, it's a bit pat, but other than that, the story moves along rather well). This is a dark series, there's some mature themes along the lines of torture, unethical studies and of course there's a good bit of gore, but it has some very good world building in it and motivations behind the characters' actions. It's one that leaves me very eager for the next volume. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #387,861 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #195 in Science Fiction Manga (Books) #1,575 in Teen & Young Adult Manga (Books) #4,316 in Action & Adventure Manga (Books) | | Customer Reviews | 4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars (1,299) | | Dimensions | 5 x 0.59 x 7.01 inches | | Edition | Illustrated | | Grade level | 10 - 12 | | ISBN-10 | 1939130840 | | ISBN-13 | 978-1939130846 | | Item Weight | 6.2 ounces | | Language | English | | Part of Series | AJIN: Demi-Human | | Print length | 228 pages | | Publication date | October 14, 2014 | | Publisher | Vertical Comics | ## Images ![Ajin 1: Demi-Human - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61aiWOdeP8L.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wondeful new horror manga *by K***R on June 19, 2016* This review will not include any spoilers. I bought this on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Very great set-up in this first volume. The artwork is top notch and the writing holds up just as well. Lots of hints and teases for what may transpire in future volumes. My only issue with this volume is how fast minor characters get introduced, and then cast aside so other minor characters can be introduced. But, I expect with subsequent volumes, most of the characters will be given time to shine in their own ways. Regardless, I highly recommend checking this manga out if you want something a bit more mature and darker. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.th/products/8154635-ajin-1-demi-human](https://www.desertcart.co.th/products/8154635-ajin-1-demi-human) --- *Product available on Desertcart Thailand* *Store origin: TH* *Last updated: 2026-10-07*
