Hello Sarah, Yes, each pellet has 42.5mg of lactose. All Boiron single medicines can be special ordered as a liquid dilution. The liquid does not contain the sucrose or lactose used in the pellets, but it does contain 20% alcohol as a preservative. Five (5) pellets equal 10 drops of a liquid dilution.  Twenty-five percent of adults in the U.S. are lactose intolerant. Lactose intolerance is a condition caused by a lack of an enzyme called lactase. The general approach to control symptoms of lactose intolerance includes avoidance of large quantities of dairy or foods containing lactose. Typically, it takes 12 g of lactose (1 cup of milk) to trigger symptoms. Five Boiron pellets contain 42.2 mg of lactose, and two Boiron tablets of most of our medicines contain 492 mg with the exception of two Acteane tablets which contain 120mg of lactose (0.35%, 4.1%, and 1% of the intolerance dose, respectively).  These amounts are not significant enough to trigger symptoms in a lactose intolerant person. In addition, lactose must reach a person’s small intestine to trigger symptoms. Homeopathic pellets and tablets are absorbed sublingually, thereby bypassing the small intestine. Also, lactose intolerance and a milk allergy should not be confused. People allergic to milk are allergic to casein (a protein), not to lactose. There is no casein or other proteins in Boiron pellets or tablets. The letter indicates which dilution process was chosen, while the number indicates how many times that dilution process was used, and consequently, which symptoms the medicine is meant to treat. Here’s a quick guide to using homeopathic medicines: Low dilutions, such as 6X or 6C, will relieve local symptoms— symptom you can point a finger at (i.e., an insect bite or bruise). Medium dilutions, such as 12X, 9C or 12C, will relieve general symptoms—more than one symptom in more than one location (i.e., muscle aches and pains). High dilutions, such as 30X or 30C, will relieve general symptoms—more than one symptom in more than one location with possible behavioral or emotional symptoms (i.e., a very high fever and chills, accompanied by agitation or sleeplessness). How do I get them out of the bottle?

You remove the small label from around the place where the 2 halves of the tube come together,  then twist, upside down,  until there are 3 -5 balls in the cap.  Sometimes,  the cap is still a glued to the bottom so you may need use something like a tweezer, or anything else that can scrap away the paper and glue.  Hope this helps.   Make sure not to touch the balls, but toss them, with the cap, under your tongue.
