Plant fast!
Using this auger with a Dewalt DCD999 (1/2" drill required), and despite the clay soil and occasional rocks, it really works well. This size auger is recommended to use with a larger, heavier duty drill, but so far I've had no issues even in the heavier clay areas. With this Auger I can Easily dig holes to plant mid-sized (Quart) plants from the garden center, and the resulting removed soil is nicely broken down and easy to mix with compost and other amendments for backfilling, where digging out with a shovel I'm doing additional work to break up the solid chunks of clay soil. By rolling the auger around, you can easily expand the hole to fit most 2 quart size pots Very well made and sturdy,, I've tried cheaper augers and it always leads to failure. Never had a Power Planter fail me.

Major Time Saver
This was one of the best time-saver tool purchases that I've ever made. I've used several different post hole diggers (manual clam shell, PTO, gas 1 & 2 man, gas 1 man rolling gantry), and they were all hard to use and generally expensive to own or rent. This auger, a heavy duty 1/2" electric drill and a good extension cord is far cheaper, faster and easier to use than any of them ! My only caveats would be not to use it in large rock or root filled soil and the need for a generator if too far from a 110/120v power source. My first job for it was to dig the post holes every 10' for a 30' x 50' raised garden bed. The soil on my property is hard pan clay and it's like digging concrete when using a clam shell post hole digger. This auger dug 2' deep holes in seconds. My only quibble is that the point should be a couple of inches longer. It wants to wander when the edge of the auger blade first contacts the soil. I actually carefully ground off the weld around the point and found that it's attached to a 3/4" rod that's long enough to pull out and re-weld to the main shaft. Now it works even better. I highly recommend this product and would purchase again if I should ever need to.

Back Saver
This drill bit is a God send! I drilled 163 holes for creeping phlox I want to plant and it took me just a little over an hour. This is coming from someone a 72 year old who has lymphedema in my right leg, need a knee replacement in my left leg and spinal stenosis in my back. It truly was a breeze to use and saved me much pain in my back and legs.

Great for post holes if you have powerful 1/2" drill
Works great with Milwaukee Hole Hawg. Used for 100 ft of fence, reamed out holes manually to 6" after drilling first. Did not want to have full size unit languishing in shop after use, this is easy to store.

We are flower bed dominating
I couldn't resist getting my hands on not one, but two Power Planter augers – a petite 3-inch buddy for those dainty annuals and a beefy 5-inch beast for the larger plants. Partnered up with my trusty Dewalt drill, these augers are like earth-shredding superheroes on a gardening mission. But here's the twist in the plot – they come with a dash of danger! If you happen to hook a rock, these augers might just teach you how to moonwalk as your wrist takes an unexpected, wild ride. It's like gardening with a hint of extreme sports! So, as much as the temptation to go full-throttle with the drill might tickle your gardening ego, slow and steady wins the race here. And voila! Our front garden is now a botanical masterpiece, the talk of the neighborhood. Thanks to these augers, we've officially crowned ourselves the reigning kings and queens of curb appeal – gardening with a side of thrill!

Garden Time Saver
Bought this to plant in bulk and save time. Be cautious if it hits rock it will throw and hurt you if you don’t adjust something… not helpful. I straddle it so when/if it throws it hits my legs instead of almost breaking my wrist. It causes bruises, but it’s worth it to me. My husband adjusted it so it’s better, but our ground sucks so it’s part of it.

1 gallon plant auger for cordless drill
Double flight super (2 rails to lift dirt) Able to power with Royobi 18v cordless drill with 4 amp battery. Used only one bar to drill 20 holes for 1 gallon plants. I drill 2 or 3 holes then plant to let the drill cool as a matter of tool maintenance. Goes through soil quite well. Much better than expected. Soil was dry, but not hard. With a shovel I could chip out 4x3x2 inch chips per stroke. I drilled out two 5 gallon holes in 15 minutes by making 3 10 inch deep holes, hand digging the center then repeating another 10 inches down. These holes where big enough for a large outer wire basket. I am enclosing a picture to compare the much smaller 3" single flight auger. I use the 3" for 4" round pots. This 5" is perfect for 1 gallon pots. I like to use a power auger where I have to plant between tree roots or other plantings. Keeps me from harming other plants, since the auger won't go through roots like a post hole digger. Plus the dirt stays right around the hole. On hillsides the post hole clumps tend to roll away.

Ok
Ok for soft soil but anything else it just stops. Also kicks the dirt out everywhere so real messy.

Great Purchase
Highly recommend this great quality auger. Very sturdy makes planting in the garden so much easier. Very pleased with this purchase, highly recommend Power planter augers. I also have the 7 inch which is wonderful as well for planting larger plants/shrubs.
