I could not find bulk, consumable rock salt in our local grocery stores--the national chains-P and K. Also the local FM only carried small, pre filled mills for sale. The size and price of the Tidman's was just what we needed. You can't let large quantities of salt sitting around for years--it loses it's flavor and would be thrown out. It is not sea salt. **Q: Is it kosher?** A: This salt is not Kosher certified. **Q: Is this a good everyday cooking salt or more for specialtiy dishes like steaks and marinades?** A: This is a very course salt.
