Does this still require oil or butter before adding the crepe batter?

No. We've had this crepe maker for 2 years and have never needed to use oil or butter before adding the batter.

Does it comes with the spatula and spreader tool shown in the picture? I don't see it shown on the box.

Yes. Mine came with the two tools.

How far does the dial turn? Mine stops at clear

Mine the dial was stuck at clear. I had to put forcefully turn it so it could go past clear. After that it works properly.

Is there a version with lid?

I use a few paper towels and cover that with an elastic lid cover... works great!
