Hot Pickled Sausage 39 ct. Gallon Jar

Love these! I was worried about shipping but had no issues.

I was looking for a substitute for Reesers Hot Mama sausages, that are sold in Oregon and Washington at every little gas station. I usually don't leave reviews unless really good or really bad... Well, this was REALLY bad! Almost no vinegar at all, and so much salt you can barely eat it, and I put salt on everything! Imagine the same saltiness of anchovies, but in a sausage. After my first bite, I immediately dumped out half of the brine and replaced with 4 cups of vinegar, and topped off the rest with water. Makes them bearable, but just barely. I also added a good amount of cayenne pepper flakes, since these have no spice at all. The sausages are not sausages, just basically hot dogs. I've tried pretty much every brand of pickled sausage there is, and these were by far the worst. I wish Reesers would ship their hot mamas, since I now live in a state that they don't do business in. I will never order these again. The prepackaged firecracker sausages are much better and cheaper, but still not what I'm looking for.

I love these little sausages. They have just the right amount of heat to them, not to hot but yet hot enough. They also have excellent flavor. I have colitis so I am supposed to watch what I eat. These aren't something recommended for Colitis patients. No worries though, these sausages never bothered my colitis at all. About the only thing I can complain about is I would like to get a few more for the money and I wish I could get them as a subscription and have them delivered every month.

I see a lot of reviews stating that the sausages didn't taste quite like the red hots flavor that they were looking forward to. I had the same experience. The brine that they are in should have a sharp, tangy hot vinegar flavor. Instead, they taste more like a salt brine flavor more akin to pickled pigfoot. I don't know if it was a batch error or not. Flavor fix: I had already eaten two of them out the jar and remembered that I had saved several jars of red hot pickled sausage brine from previous store buys. I removed the sausages from this jar and placed 6 at a time in the smaller red hots jars, making sure they were fully covered with the different brand brine. I left them soaking overnight and tasted one. I was stunned that in just 24 hours, all the sausages now tasted exactly like red hots are supposed to...tangy and spicy with no salt water flavor at all. I suggest that you either look up recipes for red hots brine online, remove the brine in this jar, and replace with your own brine -OR- buy a small jar at the store, eat them, then move 5 or 6 sausages at a time into the smaller jar, replacing them with more sausages from this big jar as you eat them. They will quickly take on the new flavor.

THese sausage s are awful mine tasted like plastic will not buy again . they came in a plastic jar.
