Inexpensive and effective
I had rotator cuff surgery this summer and have been going to physical therapy to gradually regain my range of motion and strength. The PT has a similar setup as this pulley system, only built-in and probably sturdier, and it helps a lot so I bought this to use at home. Added to all my other stretches and strength exercises I'm seeing a huge leap forward in returning to normal use of my shoulder. This pulley system is easy set up and to use -- just put it over a door and adjust the cord length to suit, grab and handle in each hand and start stretching. I leave mine set up on a bedroom closet door all the time and use it several times a day. Feels wonderful to stretch. My physical therapist is the one who told me to look at Amazon's offerings and not mess around with buying a pulley and making my own -- the pieces cost as much as buying this all ready made. Do be aware that this isn't intended to hold a lot of weight, just the weight needed to stretch your arm, but it's plenty sturdy enough for that. EDIT: Thought I ought to mention that I'm 5'3" and when my shoulder is extended fully upward (hooray!) I can touch the pulley itself. Taller people will most likely need to rig it up higher than just hanging it over the door.

Works great
I had shoulder replacement in June and had completed my PT. I wasn't happy with the range of motion I got after PT and the ortho doctor recommended I use one of these. I love this product. It hangs nicely over the door and it really helps with getting my arm up and out. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs to improve the range of motion in their arms.

RangeMaster Over the Door Shoulder Pulley │ Physical Therapy Shoulder Tool
I have a dislocated shoulder and my physical therapist recommended this RangeMaster shoulder pulley. It's the same one that they use. It helps me to move my right arm out and up, which I've been unable to do by myself due to multiple muscle tendon & ligament tears. It's helping me to maintain range of motion and some muscle tone in my right arm and shoulder as I wait for the required shoulder surgery that I need. It's easy to place over the top of a door and I can easily and quickly move it (with my working arm) if needed. It's a great way to continue some of my therapy at home between the Therapist office sessions.

Works great!
This overpriced apparatus works great to get your shoulders and arms back in action after injury or surgery. The noise of the handles smacking on the door was more than our dog could handle and he barked relentlessly every time I used this pulley. It is not supposed to be an exercise machine, but rather a leverage devise to help you get your range of motion back by gently moving your arms up and down. I don’t know how the one reviewer hurt themselves while using this device. It’s very simple yet effective.

Really helpful pulley system
An Occupational Therapist suggested I get this when I had frozen shoulder. It really helped me in association with all the work I did in our sessions. I should use it more often as it hangs on a door in my place.

A must have for PT when ready for it.
Was just given the OK to start using this as part of my PT for my shoulder replacement surgery. Very happy with it. Will enable me to do my daily exercises at home and not have to go to the Therapy place as often. Price very reasonable.

Ouch!
I use this to help my limited range of motion due to RTC surgery. Sure, there are other types of pulley systems that cost less than this one, but this one is better! MUCH Smoother operation, and much less squeaking noise than another type that I bought. This one is very compact, has all metal moving parts (instead of plastic like another type that I used), is fully adjustable, inexpensive, and just like the one in the therapists office. It also comes with an exercise book (that I didn't use by the way). Choosing this type of pulley over other designs should be a no brainer. Update **************************************************************** I purchased this in May of 2014. I was still using it as of today (1/26/16) when all of the sudden, it broke without warning and cracked me in the head. OUCH! Thankfully no blood. I'm going to reorder it again because I liked it so much, but I'm changing my 5 star rating to 3 stars. Maybe I should buy myself a helmet today too.

I got a pulley from my physio but it didn't have a hook and so could only be used with a door that closed inwards. This pulley can be used either way. Strong and well made, it comes with a book of very well-explained and illustrated exercises. I particularly like how easy it is to adjust the length so I can change easily from sitting to standing exercises.

If you're considering a pulley system for rehabilitation, I can’t recommend the metal bracket option enough! If you’re on the shorter side, specifically under 5'5", this is definitely the better option compared to the strap type. The bracket moves smoothly over the door without damaging the door and stays secure, unlike the strap anchors, which tend to slide off when you open the door. The seller provides outstanding support, complete with easy-to-follow YouTube videos and a spiral-bound flip booklet that serves as a fantastic guide. The information is not only helpful for setup, but it also emphasizes the proper body posture to use while working with the pulley system. I was initially worried because I’m not the most coordinated person, but I quickly found my rhythm—literally within a minute! The passive lift techniques allowed me to gently move my injured shoulder without any strain. Even with my disabilities and weaker hands, the wooden handles made the whole process comfortable.
