Prayers, Promises, and Devotions for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

I briefly spoke with Susan Tassone at a Marian conference in Louisville in the early 90s. She had, pardon the pun, such a fire to spread devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. She has greatly succeeded in the past quarter century. With this book, I am glad to have obtained another copy of "Prayer For Daily Neglects" (PP. 151, 152). A Poor Clare nun, appearing to her abbess shortly after her death, said praying this prayer daily freed her from the pains of Purgatory. This book not only contains many beautiful prayers and litanies for the Holy Souls but it also includes many quotes from the saints. For instance: "The eagle is the Virgin.... This eagle soars far higher, and from on high sees her prey, that is, the souls of sinners, and snatches them up to heaven in the talons of her love. - St. Thomas Villanova" (P. 163) "The holy souls are eager for the prayers of the faithful, which can gain indulgences for them. Their intercession is powerful. Pray unceasingly. We must empty purgatory! - St. Pio of Pietrelcina" (back cover) "[T]he sea! vast as it is, has limits, whereas the mercy and goodness of God are boundless. - St. John Chrysostom " (P. 126) Particularly edifying to me were a number of sayings of "Blessed Mary of Providence, foundress of the Society of Helpers of the Holy Souls" (P. 73): "Whenever anything happens, I say to myself, It has happened; and so it is God who allowed it to happen. I will not puzzle myself anymore with those two words, 'why' and 'how.' ... We must never say, 'My sufferings are too great,' because it is not true. God measures exactly the sufferings that we can and must endure for the souls in purgatory." (PP. 123, 124) "The Cross is at the foundation of every vocation. ... Those who cannot suffer cannot love." (P. 123) "Go to the most abandoned of this world, and the next." (P. 74) "Prayers, Promises, and Devotions for the Holy Souls in Purgatory" is an excellent book for the month of the Holy Souls, November. But the Suffering Souls always, until the end of time, need help. So this book is good for any time of the year.

I have literally dozens of prayer books, but this has become my absolute favorite. I bought it to use for November prayers for the Holy Souls, and was surprised to discover that it is a truly complete prayer book for year-round use. It contains such beautiful prayers! There are a variety of prayers and devotions for the Holy Souls of course, including novenas, meditations, short and long prayers, prayers for specific people (and that list is quite long so there will likely be a prayer for any deceased person you wish to remember). But there are also beautiful daily prayers, prayers for protection, prayers to banish fear, prayers to increase in holiness and prepare for death and avoid purgatory, prayers to the Precious Blood and Sacred Heart, prayers to Our Lady, the 7 Penitential Psalms, and so much more. Many of the prayers I have never seen before. I can say this is easily the most consoling prayer book I've ever owned-- consoling in terms of knowing you are helping your loved ones leave purgatory and go to heaven, but also you are helping protect and intercede for your loved ones still on earth, as well as yourself. This is a complete spiritual guide and devotional for releasing the Holy Souls into heaven, and for praying yourself and your loved ones there as well. I love this book and now carry it constantly.

I felt an urge to pray for the souls of my deceased friends but had no idea how. This book gave me a lot of ideas It was really helpful.

Susan Tassone has done it again. All her books on devotions for the Holy Souls are great. This is one of her best. It includes a holy hour for the holy souls and chapter after chapter of prayers for them. It is a fantastic resource for prayers for every category of soul in purgatory and everyone to pray to for them - Jesus, Blessed Mother, Saints, litanies, etc. Well worth the money. I ordered a second copy to put in the Adoraton Chapel of my Church. I would recommend this book to everyone who is Catholic. It has caused me to start praying more consistently for the Holy Souls again. My only complaint would be her 3 novenas in the front of the book. The first has good infomation to read and no suggested prayers, although there are plenty of prayers in the rest of the book to use. The second and third are way too short on info and prayers. She would have been better off just to make it into an information chapter instead of calling them novenas.

I needed to find my Lord in my Life again. What is going on in this country is Beyond Belief and Shameful. God is definitely the Savior we all need!!! Praying has been a true Blessing!

This book has a variety of prayers for the souls in purgatory. It is good to take to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. There is a lot of knowledge and we can't pray enough for the souls.

The book is part of my daily prayer. Also to remind me to pray for the holy souls of purgatory.

This is a great book. Lets you know how much Jesus is with you in difficult times. I have given it to multiple people who have lost loved ones, and they said it helped them.

I received this book today and it exceeded all expectations. If one has a vocation or is trying to discern from God the Father a form of Devotion for the Glory of His Kingdom, then there is no more of a loving and merciful way than praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. This book in itself covers everything from our dearly departed and other beautiful and consoling prayers for those sadly who have taken their lives by suicide. Offering them, through the infinite mercy of Christ, their hope of redemption, including beautiful devotionals for the terminally ill. Every Christian has a duty to pray for our vulnerable, sick and (faithfully) departed and what Susan has compiled here is absolute Divine Intercessory Dynamite!

Great book of prayers in helping to ease the suffering souls in purgatory. Well written, easy to read, and understand. Highly recommend

this book has so many prayers and meditations and such wealth of knowledge about the Purgatory. i came to know so much about the suffering souls and how much they are need of our prayers. so just grab this book and start reading and more important- start praying for the souls in purgatory!

Excellent book very humbling and teaches the importance of praying for the Holy Souls in purgatory and how much we can help them with our prayers. A book of many blessings.

This book exceeded my expections, I now find that I can just this one book and not have to carry loads of other prayer books and then to have to thumb through them all. Prayers,promises and devotions! I love it!
