Ignore the maniacal rants of the author.
I am about three quaters of the way through the book. The first chapter (and frequent outbursts throughout) is just the author ranting at the government and environmental campaigners. I get the impression this guy is living on the outskirts of society with his guns and a rusty truck just looking for a reason to blow his lid and go on a shooting rampage, he frequently refers to gold miners cleaning up the rivers as a free service to a government who must not be allowed to take away his rights. However, when he stops his bizarre rants at the goverment and environmentalists (who apparently make it all up) some of his explanations of gold extraction methods are quite good and his information of the equipment required. He has obviously been doing this a good while and his experience comes through. The book would benefit with a bit more information on how to identify areas in which to go exploring, ie interpreting geological maps (the basics)identifying locations to begin searching. It would definitely benefit from the Author removing all his political opinion from the text.

Raw Energy and Lifetimes of Experience
This book is amazing. Whilst some of the political aspects are very subjective one cant help think of an old timer having just the same views. In terms of the content - if you are a genuine gold prospector then there are so many nuggets regarding sluice, pan, placer etc etc. It is clear the author has much experience and that he also has learnt from old timers. An amazing book.
